Please explain this "Trump is splitting up immigrant families" story

Can anyone explain this media mantra lately moaning about how "Trump is splitting up immigrant families"? Jim Acosta and the rest of the CNN Twit Gang are posing their questions as if Trump is grabbing kids of immigrant families and shipping them off to live in a prison somewhere. I'm suspecting the real story might be that when an illegal immigrant family is caught crossing the border that some law gives the kids the right to stay but not the family members over 18. Families are given the choice to leave all together or else the kids can stay but the older ones have to leave, and they are choosing the latter. Can anyone explain what the specifics are?

When illegals break the law entering the country, the adults go to a detention center. And just like Americans who don't bring their kids, neither do they when arrested after committing crimes.

Liberals want them treated nicely. Maybe an apartment for the family so that they don't get split up breaking the law, a drivers license & of course some spending and food money via welfare. :rolleyes:

Thanks, Jim. So it sounds like its mostly what I was thinking, except that the illegal immigrant family doesn't have the choice to stay together if they leave the country. And apparently previously under Obama, they would just let the whole family stay in the country, and say "have a nice day".

Which raises a new question - under Obama, did the authorities do anything at all to enforce our border? Or was it just wide open to anyone, terrorists and MS13 members included?

Democrats who are making such a big deal about Illegals being separated from their children...never, or refuse to also state the truth. The Truth is...When Americans break the law, and go to jail, or prisons for breaking the law. THEY ARE SEPARATED FROM THEIR CHILDREN as well....SINCE the prison system does not include DEPENDENTS.
