Has anyone who had original shot after turning 60 had the new and improved one yet? I went to CVS and asked about it a few weeks ago. They said the manufacturer ran out and to check back. My doctor said there are 2 manufacturers and hadn't heard about a shortage. Also, how expensive is it if Medicare doesn't cover?

I haven't had it yet, but this looks pretty reliable:

I think that's the older vaccine. There's a new one that just came out last October.

Is Shingrix available now?
"It's out, but in small quantities. The demand has been extremely high," Schmader says. That means it may not be available right away in every part of the country.
Will health insurance cover the cost?
Shingrix costs $280 for both shots. Medicare Part D -- the prescription drug plan for people ages 65 and older -- will cover the cost. But you may have to get the shot at your pharmacy instead of your doctor's office.
What about private health insurance? Insurance companies usually wait to cover a vaccine until the CDC formally recommends it, which happened in January. Then the government gives them 12 months to bring about full coverage, Hogue says. "The best advice is to check with your insurance carrier."

Both my wife, and I got our shingles shot about 3 years ago at WALGREEN. Then we heard that WALMART was also giving the shots...FREE! We didn't have to pay. So...good luck.

Never had one.
Usually the VA asks when I get my biannual check up if I want this shot or that, flu and what not, but they've never asked me about Shingles.

I learned, before I actually came down with Shingles (and they are painful, big red scabs, and itch really bad) If you had the Chicken Pox at any time in your life. You have the virus, or whatever they call it...in your system. So eventually...the Shingles will show up.
I've had them on my back, arms, neck..and even the worst...in the crotch area. They are ugly too. If you get the shot....you're safe.
I made a mistake....I first said measles...I corrected to Chicken Pox.
