Was watching "Secrets of the Universe" the other night and they said that the moon is slowly moving away from the earth, and that at some point it will warp and explode and create a ring around the earth like Saturn, and then that will begin to rain down on the earth, millions and millions of little asteroid fire balls.

Found this but it tells it a little different... it's all theory I suppose...
