Given Turkey's invasion of Syrian land to exterminate "terrorists" (Kurds), thought it was a rather interesting factoid that this isn't Turkey's first go-round the genocide tree. If the Turks don't like you, they just come up with an excuse to exterminate your entire race.
The Armenian Genocide (Armenian (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armenian_language): Հայոց ցեղասպանություն,[note 3] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armenian_Genocide#cite_note-11) Hayots tseghaspanutyun), also known as the Armenian Holocaust,[9] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armenian_Genocide#cite_note-12) was the Ottoman government (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imperial_Government_(Ottoman_Empire))'s systematic extermination of 1.5 million Armenians (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armenians),[note 2] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armenian_Genocide#cite_note-fatalities-9) mostly citizens within the Ottoman Empire (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ottoman_Empire).[10] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armenian_Genocide#cite_note-13)[11] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armenian_Genocide#cite_note-huffingtonpost.com-14) The starting date is conventionally held to be 24 April 1915, the day that Ottoman authorities rounded up, arrested, and deported from Constantinople (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Istanbul) (now Istanbul) to the region of Ankara (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ankara) 235 to 270 Armenian intellectuals and community leaders (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deportation_of_Armenian_intellectuals_on_24_April_ 1915), the majority of whom were eventually murdered. The genocide was carried out during and after World War I (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_I) and implemented in two phases—the wholesale killing of the able-bodied male population through massacre and subjection of army conscripts to forced labour (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forced_labour), followed by the deportation of women, children, the elderly, and the infirm on death marches (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_march) leading to the Syrian Desert (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Syrian_Desert). Driven forward by military escorts, the deportees were deprived of food and water and subjected to periodic robbery, rape, and massacre.[12] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armenian_Genocide#cite_note-15) Other ethnic groups were similarly targeted for extermination in the Assyrian genocide (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assyrian_genocide) and the Greek genocide (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greek_genocide), and their treatment is considered by some historians to be part of the same genocidal policy (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Late_Ottoman_genocides).[1] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armenian_Genocide#cite_note-SchallerZimmer-1)[2] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armenian_Genocide#cite_note-Jones2010-2) Most Armenian diaspora (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armenian_diaspora) communities around the world came into being as a direct result of the genocide.[13] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armenian_Genocide#cite_note-16)
Raphael Lemkin (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raphael_Lemkin) was moved specifically by the annihilation of the Armenians to define systematic and premeditated exterminations within legal parameters and coin the word genocide (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genocide) in 1943.[14] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armenian_Genocide#cite_note-17) The Armenian Genocide is acknowledged to have been one of the first modern genocides,[15] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armenian_Genocide#cite_note-24.04.1998-18)[16] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armenian_Genocide#cite_note-Ferguson-19)[17] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armenian_Genocide#cite_note-IAGS-20)because scholars point to the organized manner in which the killings were carried out. It is the second most-studied case of genocide after the Holocaust (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Holocaust).[18] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armenian_Genocide#cite_note-nazi-21)
Turkey denies the word genocide (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armenian_Genocide_denial) is an accurate term for these crimes. In recent years, Turkey has been faced with repeated calls to recognize them as genocide.[19] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armenian_Genocide#cite_note-22) As of 2018, 29 countries have officially recognized the mass killings as genocide (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armenian_Genocide_recognition), as have most genocide scholars and historians.[20] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armenian_Genocide#cite_note-Monroe2012-23)[21] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armenian_Genocide#cite_note-Frey2009-24)
