I earned what I have, my wife is grateful to have found someone like me with the wisdom and patience to control her violent tendencies. If not for me she would have a criminal record by now. I control my wife quite well, thank you very much. Pro tip: Have a good rapport with the Sheriff in a conservative county who is willing to enforce the law without involving social services. My wife was raised with this mentality that domestic violence is a normal part of marriage, meaning that if the husband doesn't have the balls to take charge, then the wife needs to. I showed her that here in the USA, men take charge a different way: Cut off money and involve law enforcement when she leaves bruises on the kids. Also, keep copies of the police reports when you move. She apparently thought that she needed to pick up the slack where I was asleep at the switch.

Oddly enough, my oldest son's most traumatic experience with domestic violence was with government. When he as 12 and already physically bigger and stronger than his mother, she left some noticeable fingernail marks in his arm. His guidance counselor at school asked about it and he replied "it's not important and not worth discussing." The guidance counselor persisted and my son said "I will tell you if you give me your word that you don't mention this to anyone else". She gave her word that it was "our secret". My son explained that he's grown up enough to handle his mom. The guidance counselor promptly contacted New Hampshire social services. I got a call from a case worker wanting to do a home visit asking when she could come over. I explained that she could come over as soon as I see a warrant duly signed by a judge. I never heard from them again and moved a few months later to a take a higher paying contract.

My son explained that he learned a hard lesson never to trust a government employee. I explained to him that you can on rare occasions, but this is New Hampshire, not Georgia where you were born. After that, he started bugging me to move out of New England.
