Knife Violence on the Rise in Germany

Imagine that, folks going on a trend to kill others, and are using a tool that is accessible to them. They will find a way to kill, they are sick. But should knives be banned? Even you liberals reading know that sounds retarded.

Knife Violence on the Rise in Germany

While this country is embroiled in a shouting match over gun violence, Germany finds itself in an internal debate about the rise in knife violence. Unlike this country, though, many in Germany seem to be focused on finding the root cause and, hence, the solution. As The Local reports of Germany, "police statistics [show] that refugees and asylum seekers are significantly over-represented in violent crime statistics."

Titled "String of knife attacks further fuels debate over refugees and violence," the article begins by listing a series of violent knife attacks. Almost all of the attacks were done by male teenage refugees. The listed knife attacks are disturbing and the article concludes with the statement, "At least seven knife attacks were recorded last weekend alone." The article then adds, "the prevalence of asylum seekers as suspects in these crimes has given voice to those who say the government's liberal refugee policies have made the country less safe."

While there are undoubtedly leftists in Germany pushing back on ascribing the rising knife violence to refugees, it is refreshing that a country is seemingly interested in finding the actual problem instead of blaming knives—something that leftists in America would do well to imitate.

In an earlier article, I wrote about how guns have been around for as long as there have been schools in this country. In fact, previous generations openly carried guns to school. That fact means that the rise in gun violence in schools is not due to the presence of guns. In the article, I then explained that "when looking for solutions to problems, you need to first deal with variables that were introduced around the time the problem began. Guns are not the actual problem, and treating them as the actual problem will help ensure that the problem will never be solved."

Whatever flaws the country of Germany may have, it at least appears that on this issue they're willing to have a meaningful debate. By way of contrast, if The Local's article about the rise of knife violence were written about this country, it's easy to imagine that the thesis would've been: "the prevalence of knives is causing the rise in knife violence."

Hamburg, October 15. A 23-year-old man was stabbed (https://www.welt.de/regionales/hamburg/article169651108/Messerattacke-in-Restaurant-Taeter-flieht.html#Comments) in a restaurant after he made "accidental eye contact" with his attacker.
Berlin, October 11. Two passersby were stabbed (http://www.bz-berlin.de/berlin/neukoelln/polizei-sucht-diesen-messerstecher-vom-u-bahnhof-neukoelln) at the Neukölln subway station. Police said the attack was random and unprovoked.
Cologne, October 2. A 24-year-old woman was robbed at knifepoint (http://www.presseportal.de/blaulicht/pm/12415/3750673) by a "dark-skinned" man (dunklen Teint) while on a train to Düsseldorf's airport.
Mannheim, September 30. A 31-year-old man stabbed (https://www.bsaktuell.de/60893/mannheim-mann-geht-mit-messer-auf-passanten-und-polizisten-los/) random passersby. Police fired a warning shot after pepper spray failed to subdue him.
Leipzig, July 27. Wiesbaden, November 14. A man drew a knife (http://www.presseportal.de/blaulicht/pm/43562/3787677) on a woman and her children in broad daylight at a playground. The woman said the man tried to steal her dog and when she resisted, attacked her.
Cologne, November 2. A 39-year-old woman was stabbed (https://www.ksta.de/koeln/rodenkirchen/drogen-im-spiel-39-jaehrige-mit-messer-in-koeln-meschenich-schwer-verletzt-28755028) by a man on drugs.
Singen, October 4. Two 14-year-old children speaking Turkish drew a knife (http://www.presseportal.de/blaulicht/pm/110973/3752182)and assaulted several children at a playground.
Dortmund, October 1. When police arrived, they were "massively attacked" by the mob. Police used dogs to restore order.
Cologne, October 14. A 22-year-old migrant from Africa was stabbed to death (http://www.presseportal.de/blaulicht/pm/12415/3760950) at the Ebertplatz in a knife fight involving six other Africans.
Öhringen, October 12. A 17-year-old German-Turk stabbed (http://www.stimme.de/polizei/hohenlohe/19-Jaehriger-stirbt-nach-Auseinandersetzung-Taeter-verhaftet;art1494,3924865) and seriously wounded a 19-year Pole during a knife fight.
Bielefeld, October 2. A 21-year-old man was repeatedly stabbed (https://www.welt.de/vermischtes/article169255516/Mordkommission-ermittelt-nach-Messerattacke.html) after he came to the aid of a couple being attacked by a group of Afghan men at a skate park. More than 20 people eventually joined the fight. The stabbing suspect is an 18-year-old Iraqi Kurd.

Oldenburg, October 14. The trial began of a 37-year-old Iraqi accused of stabbing to death (https://www.nwzonline.de/oldenburg/blaulicht/oldenburg-landgericht-oldenburg-angeklagter-gesteht-toetung-seiner-ehefrau-in-wardenburg_a_32,1,332451280.html) his wife, the mother of his five children, who were in the house at the time of the attack. According to the indictment, the Iraqi murdered his wife to restore the "family honor" after he believed she was having an affair with another man. The woman had, in fact, been attending German language courses.
Eggenfelden, October 4. A 47-year-old migrant from Kazakhstan castrated (http://www.wochenblatt.de/news-stream/regensburg/artikel/205941/die-bluttat-im-fluechtlingsheim-vergewaltiger-wird-entmannt)a 28-year-old Ukrainian migrant at a migrant shelter; the victim bled to death at the scene.
Leipzig, August 11. A 37-year-old Afghan stabbed to death (http://www.lvz.de/Leipzig/Polizeiticker/Polizeiticker-Leipzig/Mann-ersticht-Hochschwangere-in-Leipzig-Lindenau) his 34-year-old wife, who was pregnant with their third child. The couple's two children were present at home during the crime.

Herzberg, June 29. Mohammad Hussain Rashwani, a 38-year-old migrant from Syria tried to behead (http://www.lr-online.de/regionen/elbe-elster/herzberg/Syrischer-Friseur-schneidet-Chefin-in-den-Hals;art1056,6061969) 64-year-old Ilona Fugmann at her beauty salon. Fugmann had offered Rashwani a job as a hair stylist and German media praised him as an exemplar of successful integration. Mohammad reportedly had found it difficult to subordinate himself to his female boss.
Cologne, June 14. A 33-year-old Syrian stabbed (http://www.presseportal.de/blaulicht/pm/12415/3660688) and seriously injured his ex-wife at a supermarket in Cologne. He also stabbed his 13-year-old son after the boy intervened to protect his mother.
Cottbus, June 9. A 32-year-old Chechen man was sentenced (https://www.welt.de/vermischtes/article165382489/19-Messerstiche-aus-dem-Fenster-geworfen-Kehle-durchgeschnitten.html) to 13 years in prison for slitting his wife's throat and throwing her out of the second-floor window of their apartment. The man was charged with manslaughter rather than murder because, according to the court, the "honor killing" was done in the heat of passion: the man thought that his wife ....

And then we have the UK as a whole. Currently in the UK they are facing the largest rise in knife murders they have ever seen. The amount of knife crime is currently so high in the UK that they have having knife amnesty and knife turn-in bins all throughout their townships.
In the UK there are even government programs where psychologists and other aid workers are going into schools to talk with children about the dangers of knives and whey they shouldn’t be carrying them in schools.
