So What Is This Guy Shooting?

Question for the troops that handle these weapons... Is it an AR-15, or an AR-10? I realise there's no real way to know, but I saw this pic on twitter posted by the "MILITARY USA" account I follow and thought it was so cool I had to post it... our troops have no equal... pretty big magazine though... I think it might be bigger than 5.56mm...

Looks like an M-4 with a scope. The reason I say M-4 is it is too short to be an M16A2. The full stick kind of throws it off from the M-4. The receiver is M-16. That's what I'm using as the identifier.

OK... IDK either, but, what exactly is the difference between an M4 and an AR-15/10? As far as google pics they look the same.

Barrel is shorter and buttstock is shorter, and has a skeletal design rather than the solid, longer rife design of the M-16 buttstock. Same ammo 5.56mm ball. (.223). I'm sure range is shorter due to shorter barrel. I have no idea if they changed the stock sights, but the M-4's I've seen all have laser crap and scopes on them. The The M-16 uses "iron" sights.

The Magazine well is VERY M-16.

OK I found this... seems the differences are rather small... I did not know this... I've been slacking on my firearms knowledge...

The differences between the two are extremely small. The M4 has a 14.5 inch barrel, while the AR-15 generally has a 16 inch barrel, although multiple sizes are available.

The primary reason for this is the law in the United States about short-barreled rifles. This law requires that rifles have at least a 16 inch barrel.

As a result of this shorter barrel, the M4 has a shorter gas tube. To deal with the decreased pressure as a result of this shorter gas tube, the M4 also has more pronounced feed ramps to ensure that the next round is seated properly each time.

The barrel of an M4 has an hourglass shape cut into it, which allows for military members to mount a grenade launcher to it. The last big difference between the two is that the M4 has either a three round burst or fully automatic firing option.
