Polls Give Trump High Marks on Speech
Two snap polls show that President Donald Trump graded out favorably with Americans who watched his first State of the Union address.
Seventy-five percent of Americans who watched Trump's SOTU approved of the speech, while 25 percent disapproved, according to a CBS News poll.
Further, a CNN poll found that 70 percent of those who watched the SOTU had a "very positive" or "somewhat positive" attitude about the president's speech.
Here are the highlights from the CBS survey:
65 percent said the speech made them feel proud; 35 percent said it made them feel safer; 21 percent said it left them angry and 14 percent said they were scared by the presidential address.
42 percent of those who watched the speech said they were Republicans, 25 percent were Democrats and 33 percent were independents.
81 percent said Trump was trying to unite the nation in his speech, compared to 19 percent who said he was trying to divide the U.S.
72 percent said they favor the proposals on immigration Trump outlined in his speech, while 28 percent opposed them.
91 percent favored what the president outlined on infrastructure, compared to 9 percent who opposed it.
75 percent supported his ideas on national security, while 25 percent opposed them.
The results from CNN's poll:
48 percent had a very positive reaction to the speech.
22 percent had a somewhat positive reaction.
28 percent had a negative view of the speech.
Further, CNN found that 62 percent of those surveyed think Trump's policies will move the country in the right direction.
