View Full Version : Nowadays. Winter in Siberia.
Winter in Siberia: see how the inhabitants of Yakutia are suffering from 62-degree frosts.
With a cooling to -62 degrees, life is just beginning.
Frosts, with which Siberia is famous for the whole world, finally came to the region. In the coldest inhabited place of the planet, Oimyakon village, the thermometer columns dropped down to -62 degrees Celsius. Record of 2013, when meteorologists recorded -71 degrees, still standing.
Local residents were not frightened by the cooling: dozens of photos and videos with ice-covered eyelashes, thermometer readings and even bathing in ice-free pools appeared in social networks! The British media, The Telegraph, the Independent and the Daily Mail, dedicated individual materials to the temperature anomalies of Siberia, now they are joined by the Afisha Daily.

Ya know, my older brother and I watched that movie in our high school auditorium a long, long time ago, in black and white, then we had to WALK home which was a good mile at least, at night in a very rural small town with virtually NO street lights back then, in the cold, snowy dead of winter. We were both scared shitless. Dang movie gave me nightmares for weeks.

Yep, that's cold. It's -13F here in Barrow right now, which isn't too bad.
Coldest I've been in was -65 F in Fairbanks in 1999 for a week straight. That kind of cold gets your attention.

53 below zero one day in Lone Rock, WI. A little town not far from me. My Ma was teaching school that year there and recalls it too...

Not to actually question, or diminish, the report you've offered ... but, you do have a habit of posting material designed to promote the 'hardiness' of the Russian people. For what purpose ... to promote a notion of superiority ? Or 'the indomitable spirit of the Russian people' ?
Pride in oneself, one's nation, patriotism, is a noble thing. But may I suggest that you do not possess a monopoly on such things. We, too, in the West, have much to be proud of.
A good reason for your being here may be to appreciate what that is ....

There are good news. Within a couple of days they promise the thaw up to -40C. http://www.kolobok.us/smiles/standart/derisive.gif
