Oregon is one of two states that doesn’t permit customers to pump their own gas. Thanks to a new law, however, you’ll be able to pump your own gas if you live in counties with fewer than 40,000 residents. KTVL asked their viewers if this was a good idea and, apparently, it’s not.

Commenters on the station’s Facebook page were apoplectic.

“I’ve lived in this state all my life and I REFUSE to pump my own gas,” Mike wrote. “I had to do it once in California while visiting my brother and almost died doing it. This is a service only qualified people should perform. I will literally park at the pump and wait until someone pumps my gas. I can’t even.”

Curry County are Full-Service businesses. I have not got a problem getting out and pumping
my own fuel (it is not that hard), cleaning my own windows and mirrors, checking my own oil
and tires.

But the way these stations are run is like a people-friendly business! The pump jockey actually greets and
converseses with a customer. So me getting out and cleaning the glass while he runs the damn pump
is no big deal. We chat, laugh, complain about the weather - it is personalble!

In California, unless you have a handicapped plate or tag, you pump your own. There are very few
Full-Service stations left in that state.

Full service isn't even available here in Michigan. Don't remember it being available in Washington state, Arizona, texas, or Florida last couple years either. I thought it went away 20 years ago.

I live in rural Arkansas. In the nearest town to me, pop 4K people , there is ONE station that still has full service. The rest are your convenience store help yourself variety. They are right around $.12 more a gallon, but what's that per fill up?

ANd yeah, when we're traveling I just stop wherever, I don't worry about finding a full service station, just when I'm in town, I'm willing to spend the extra money.

I've pumped my own gas my entire life and was shocked to hear two states still do it for you. I was in Portland last year and got gas. Dude came out and I was thinking gtfo, I can get out of my car, swipe my CC, select the grade and insert the pump. Why is that such a luxury having someone do that for you? It's annoying.

I can do it all myself, but locally I got to know all the pump jockeys and it is a pleasant customer-provider condition.
If I ever need anything, they will smile and provide.

Try that in California and all you get is a blank stare. Most are in fast-stop Mini-markets where the cashier
will not step out from behind the counter.

ALL gas stations were full service. You couldn't pump your own. If a customer was in a hurry and started pumping his own gas, the attendant got his ass chewed. My first legit job (where I paid taxes n crap) was pumping gas. We had no self-service islands.

After they got self service islands, it was usually one, and you got a discount. May be a Southern thing, but most women/girls I knew would not pump there own gas. By God, the BF/hubby better get his sh*t in order.:laugh:

At least in Gold Beach, Brookings, Grants Pass, Medford, and Klamath Falls - it is marvelous.

But mark my words ... happens EVERY year. Bad enough pets get left but there's always someone that forgets their child. Or worse, they'll leave them in the car on purpose. I'm not real merciful on the topic myself. You don't want me on your jury. You might as well fill out those Bexar County Jail change of address cards now.

Speaking of. We had an amber alert a couple of days ago some moron took off with two girls. The mother is dead. I didn't hear if he is charged with killing her or not but they caught the bastard in CO. He'll be coming "home".

Exactly, I don't think there's a full service gas station in the entire state of Wisconsin. I've pumped my own gas here for so long I can't remember when the full service quit. I pumped my own gas in NV, AZ, FL and MT too. I honestly thought full service stations were a thing of the past... EVERYWHERE.
