-An entire family of four has come out as transgender in Queen Creek, Arizona
-Daniel Harrott, 41, got the courage to come out as a trans man when his daughter, Joshua, 13, wanted to join Girls Scouts one year ago
-Joshua, a transgender girl, was assigned male sex at birth

An entire family of four - man, woman, son and daughter - has come out as transgender in Queen Creek, Arizona.

Daniel Harrott, 41, the biological parent of two trans children, was assigned female gender at birth and is a transgender man.

His son and daughter also say they were assigned the wrong gender at birth, and he has met a transgender woman, Shirley Austin, 62, who was assigned male gender at birth. Harrott and Austin are now engaged.

'The whole family is in transition,' Austin told KJZZ.

'It feels like you're getting to live for the first time,' Harrott said. 'And my children are getting to be who they've always wanted to be.'

Chaz Bono, who was assigned female at birth and is a transgender man, explains his being born with female reproductive organs as being 'a birth defect, like a cleft palate,' according to Bustle.

'There's a gender in your brain and a gender in your body. For 99 percent of people, those things are in alignment. For transgender people, they're mismatched,' he said.

I've been reading scifi for decades, but I never felt that way before. Suddenly, the new and strange has built up so fast and so much that I realize it's like time travelling. There is no direct connection with the past anymore: it's like we just came out of a time machine.

Yeah, I love that line and have used it: "1984 was not supposed to be an instruction manual!"

Now that we live in the future, I'm trying to figure out my attitude toward the craziness. I'm thinking maybe it's all okay as long as we're free to disagree and not participate. That is, libertarianism (and I am one, a conservative libertarian). The problem is perhaps not that men are marrying men or people of one sex are pretending to be the other sex --- the problem is that those of us who are normal are being forced to collude with these psychotic behaviors; to pretend to accept what we do not, in fact, accept. I think anyone should get to say, no, we're not doing a homosexual wedding or a switched-sexes or animal/human wedding at our wedding venue. Reason? We just don't care to. Not because of stupid elaborate "religious" fakery as an excuse: just because. Stuff. Reasons. I think we should get to move without issues to a different cubicle if the person next to us pretends to be a woman but is really a man, or is a black woman who spends all day every day shrieking over the phone to and about her boyfriend who is in jail. (This actually happened to a woman I know, and she ended up on my team on a different floor from the phone abuser. And she was a WHOLE lot more valuable worker than the black woman!)

I think our whole problem is not that people do crazy things because they are crazy or seek attention --- they always have, way back to the Middle Ages. The problem is our being forced to pretend it's okay or "normal" when it isn't either, in our opinion.

I guess I can have that if I insist --- none of the new crazy is okay with me, and I'm simply staying out of it all and not allowing people to force me into pretending any of it is all right with me.
