My son had a few choices for college, but had his heart set on Rensselaer here in NY. A tough place to get into though. He paid for early admission, and here's what he just received: (a little edited)

And then worse, read the very bottom, as I went and read their tuition crap. :crying22: The good news is that he already owns a good laptop.

Jim. I want to say Congratulations on one hand, for both of you, sincerely.
And on the other. I am unable to honestly say Good Luck, seeing the costs. But, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. The costs are far below what would be needed for an IVY LEAGUE school of today, where questionable credit can be offered due to the liberal idea's being espoused in such schools.
I do congratulate you, and your (kid) Son. It will be an exciting future for him, and you.

Jim, that is EXCELLENT!! :cheers2:
I'm not sure of the rank, but I know that Rensselaer is ranked in the national TOP 50 for technical colleges. And it is highly regarded among high school counselors.

He could get help with tuition if he joined the military... but... I wouldn't exactly recommend that right now.

Just unbelievable how expensive college is today.

Congratulations... as they used to tell us at SWTC... "the more you learn, the more you earn."

But $140,000.00 in debt... http://www.sherv.net/cm/emoticons/brown/blank-look-smiley-emoticon.png (http://www.sherv.net/)

Congrats Jim and your brilliant son! That is a real accomplishment.

Can you say he's Native American or some other minority? He'd probably get a full ride!

Good idea. If Elizabeth Warren can get away with it, why not Jim's son?

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (/rɛnsəˈlɪər/), or RPI, is a private research university and space-grant institution located in Troy, New York, with two additional campuses in Hartford and Groton, Connecticut.

The Institute was established in 1824 by Stephen van Rensselaer and Amos Eaton for the "application of science to the common purposes of life" and is described as the oldest technological university in the English-speaking world. Numerous American colleges or departments of applied sciences were modeled after Rensselaer. Built on a hillside, RPI's 265-acre (107 ha) campus overlooks the city of Troy and the Hudson River and is a blend of traditional and modern architecture. The institute operates an on‑campus business incubator and the 1,250-acre (510 ha) Rensselaer Technology Park.

Hey jim. Abbey had a great idea there. You should just change your son's name to Jose', or Jesus. The door to all of the highest awards will instantly come his way, and save you thousands...while ALL OF US pay for it! (Just kidding) (Maybe?););););)

That's a damned fine school and will set him up for his lifetime. It's a great achievement and smart move. Whatever it takes to get him through. They usually have a pretty good hockey team too.

I know 'they' keep saying there's no jobs in law. My niece graduated Columbia Law, has a MBA from Northwestern, but at 37 she's making close to .5 mil per year. She's climbed up to an officer at Chase in corporate law.

Congratulations, if he gets a job paying at least $80,000 after graduation, he can pay off his school loans within 5-10 years.
