My brother found some of my dad's medals today, which is quite strange being Veterans Day. As you can see, he was part of the Big Red 1.

He also found a letter sent to my uncle, regarding my dad's recovery in England. He was injured of course on D-Day, in the second wave. Notice the date of the letter, he was still convalescing and unable to write due to his hands being pretty well shredded. He was very fortunate that he happened to be under the care of a neurosurgeon, who 'relaxed' by pulling shrapnel out of my dad's hands, arms, legs, back, and rear end. They stayed friends after the war, the doc saved his hand for the second time, my dad saved it first. The medic on the beach wanted to amputate, my dad said, "No!" and wouldn't let him have his arm. Finally, the medic plunged the arm into a bucket of sulfa and he was evacuated. Maybe @jimnyc (http://www.debatepolicy.com/member.php?u=1) can turn it around?

Incredible stuff, Kathy. God bless your father for his service, valor and patriotism.
