I know 'talks' and some form of diplomacy is going on. I also believe that if NK doesn't continue to be provocative regarding use of their missiles, things might happily sit idle again. But if they don't?

Is this kind of talk from Mattis just tough guy crap meant to be just scare tactics? Or perhaps something more, maybe preparing not only them for some form of conflict, but perhaps the nation as well?

I'd be curious to be a fly, and buzz into little fat boys room, and hear the same from him and his people. Is this guy truly cuckoo and hell bent on attacking us eventually? Is he willing to come to the table?

Mattis to Army: ‘Stand ready’ if North Korea diplomacy fails

America’s relationship with North Korea remains a diplomatic one, Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis said Monday, but he urged members of the military to be prepared in case the situation breaks down.

Mattis also used his keynote speech at the annual AUSA conference in Washington, D.C., to thank allies who have stood with the U.S. through the ages.

“It is right now a diplomatically, economic-sanctions-buttressed effort to try and turn North Korea off of this path,” Mattis told the audience. “What does the future hold? Neither you nor I can say.”

Tensions with North Korea have ratcheted up since the start of the year, following a series of missile launches that culminated in a nuclear test on Sept. 3. Those tensions have been matched with rhetoric from President Donald Trump, who regularly issues provocative tweets and has taken to calling North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un “rocket man.”

Kim Jung is not crazy

The issue is that both sides are confused by each other's actions.

There are two different games being played here. The danger is making a mistake that ends up in catastrophe.

He may have a monster sized IQ and passed every class and all that other jazz. May be a great communicator or whatever anyone says.

But when someone is shooting off missiles, regardless of screams from the entire international community... even shooting one over other countries, is FAR from rational. Doing so can create a war on the spot. Talking smack is one thing, but shooting missiles and sending out pictures of himself smiling... a pretty good way to get your country in a war, or worse, some BIG 'ol bombs dropped on you and your citizens. THAT is not rational or intelligent no matter how you slice it, IMO.

I didn't say he was smart. I said he doesn't appear to be crazy. Jim, there are rational reasons for his actions. Kim Jung is executing a plan 70 years in the making. You must learn their perspective to understand their actions.

I kinda think he's crazy. As displayed by his actions.

"For example, in the five years he has served as leader of North Korea, he has purged (his) Defense Minister five times, while his father changed his Defense Minister only three times in his 17 years ... and two of those changes were because (they) died of old age,"

Earlier this year, North Korea's top education official Kim Yong Jin was executed by firing squad after he exercised a "bad attitude" at the country's Supreme People's Assembly in June.
In May 2015, Kim had his Defense Minister Hyon Yong Chol killed with an anti-aircraft gun at a military school in Pyongyang, in front of an audience.
Related: Kim Jong Un -- madman or mastermind?
"(It) would have torn his body apart," Bennett said. "And of course Kim made sure the Defense Minister's family was there to see the execution."
Two years earlier, in 2013, Kim Jong Un's uncle was executed for trying to overthrow the government, according to state media, which described him as a "traitor for all ages."

That is crazy.
