Are these California fires near where you used to live? So awful.

YES!
First thing Monday morning I get a text message from my old tenant telling me that he's packed and ready to go because they're going to be evacuating soon. As of today my old house is still standing but there's a lot of people that I know that have lost their homes. My step-son had to evacuate. He's a teacher so the schools have been closed and he's been working at the shelters. His wife is a nurse and was called in and has been working 24/7. Two people I know have died already. And I have a few others who have lost their homes. And Calistoga is where my daughter grew up and she is devastated to think that it might be gone soon.

The restaurant where I had my first lunch date with my ex-husband is gone. Another restaurant where we celebrated our first anniversary is now gone. The hotel where I spent my last night in California before moving to Tucson is gone. So many places gone ... tragic.

Charles Shultz, Peanuts creator....home gone. Landmark wineries .. gone. Kendall-Jackson in path but survives. Paradise Ridge winery where stepson got married ... gone.

The massive Tubbs Fire started in Napa County late Sunday before spreading into Sonoma County during the night. Coursey described its destructive path:
"It traveled 16 miles in an instant, it seemed like. It just came roaring over the hills, down through some dry brush. [It] hit one of our most expensive housing subdivisions in the hills; went through a commercial area, burned down a couple of hotels, a couple of nice restaurants; hopped over a six-lane freeway; roared through a Kmart shopping center; and then into a middle-class section. ... It was indiscriminate, and it was very, very fast."

I'm so sorry, it's unthinkable what is happening with these fires.

More family were allowed back to their house yesterday but at 4:45 this morning mandatory evacuations because the fire was coming back. It's on the east side of Santa Rosa.

Talk to one of my friends there this morning and she said that she will forever have horrific nightmares when she smells smoke.

Compared to what is happening in CA, what we ad this summer was so much better. I do understand thpugh what your friend says about the smell, the orange glow is also something you don't forget.

....so true Kat ...the smell of all the past destruction and misery along with the smell of ash in the air ..and the "orange glow".... is certainly `something to be remembered` with the hope that all the carnage will be over soon for the good people of Cali....
