Rupert Murdoch has taken the rightwing US channel Fox News off the air in the UK after 15 years.

His US media group 21st Century Fox said it would withdraw Fox News from Sky in the UK on Tuesday because it no longer regarded the service as commercially viable.

The decision came as Karen Bradley, the culture secretary, is set to return her verdict on whether to ask the competition regulator to launch an investigation into the Murdochs’ adherence to broadcasting standards in the UK as part of an inquiry into Fox’s £11.7bn takeover bid for Sky.

However, sources said the decision to stop broadcasting Fox News, which went off air at 4pm, was not connected to the takeover bid, arguing that the channel attracted only about 2,000 viewers a day in the UK.

“[Fox] has decided to cease providing a feed of Fox News Channel in the UK,” a spokeswoman for the company said. “Fox News is focused on the US market and designed for a US audience and, accordingly, it averages only a few thousand viewers across the day in the UK. We have concluded that it is not in our commercial interest to continue providing Fox News in the UK.”

You can get around it using the Internet. FOX channels are easy to find online, with daily reports and video's.

I take it you mean an alternative way of getting Fox News, on our TV ? Sadly, no. Our Sky satellite broadcaster was the only company which relayed their output. With the loss of Sky's feed, we lose Fox News entirely (except for YouTube recordings, of course ..).

We have various forms of TV media ... Sky satellite, Freesat, Freeview, Virgin Media, and a couple of others - a choice of reception from an aerial, satellite dish, or cable .. the usual varieties.

You might like to know that Al Jazeera's output is VERY well covered, by total (and offensive !) contrast. I believe I'm right in saying that every single television broadcasting platform we have carries their stuff, 24/7. No doubt our ever politically-correct Left are very proud of the fact. Islamic-weighted biases are fine, you see, even encouraged. Anything daring to be 'fair and balanced', as of course Fox News was famed for being, is too much of a contrast, over here, when also compared against the State-sponsored biases of the BBC ...

So to answer a possible alternative way of interpreting your question - we do have alternatives to Fox News. The BBC, ITV, Sky News, Channel 4 news, LBC Radio (news and phone-in discussions) .. to mention some. Do we have an equivalent to Fox ? NO ... which is why this latest news is such a loss to us.

Be in no doubt that there are many with a political agenda who'll be celebrating our loss of the Fox News feed. Namely, those who don't welcome alternative biases to their own ever managing to come to the fore.

The BBC dominates our airwaves -- not suprisingly, as British citizens HAVE to pay for its operations, by law, via our TV licencing system .. a form of tax. As for what the BBC entails .. well, we both well know the answer to that one. Often some very biased reporting, never favouring the Right wing.

Who else but the Left would expect their viewing public to pay for the privilege of being fed their propaganda in the first place ??

There are uncomfortable truths.

The Left isn't open to recognising anything not qualifying as a comfortable, or preferred, truth. But the Right is grounded in realism. We take it all ... we deal with it all.

This is why a Right-wing broadcasting outfit is to be preferred to any Left-wing alternative, regardless of any claim or perception of bias. The Left is totally intolerant to anything not matching their preferred worldview.

Agreed. I see the BBC as an example of our copycat network here called MSNBC. But i have learned to call it PMSNBC...for obvious reasons only our Liberal members who watch that network faithfully, would understand.

You can also sign up ONLINE for Emails from FOX, or other U.S. Conservative sources. If you can't hear, or watch it...at least you'll have UP-TO-DATE reading.
