As a family of fanatical Pink Floyd fans, my mom and dad, my daughter and I all made the journey to Staples Center last night to see Roger Waters present his "Us and Them" show. The staging was spectacular and the music was, of course, awesome. A stunning sight and sound experience.
I turned on the local news this morning and there was a story about the large number of people who had the left the show, claiming it was "too political."
Duh... where have you people been? Waters has been writing political songs for 40 years. He might be the most openly anti-Trump musician on the planet. You can't tell me you spent $200 on a ticket expecting Waters to tone down his show. Too bad for you.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hO1laaseWtgNewsflash Gabby: Roger Waters being an idiot megalomaniac doesn't take away from Pink Floyd's value. Just his. As a solo act, you can have the goofball.

Roger Waters wrote and sang many of Pink Floyd's best songs. I have always been more of a David Gilmour fan. Never been interested in Waters' solo work. I went to the show because it is almost entirely Pink Floyd songs.
I'm a liberal, so I enjoyed it. My husband stayed home.

Being what YOU call a "liberal" means nothing. No real liberals from my day would be party to anything you claim. Us "liberals" back then called people like YOU what you are ... commies.
and we all had long hair, wore bell bottoms and sandals and tanks or tees and had most if not all of Floyd's LPs. And a turntable to play them on.

I wonder if waters really practices what he preaches re politics. Lennon sure didn't.

Fantastic music, no doubt about that! I've downloaded some decent songs over the years. :thumb:
And while a song may have politics in it somehow, at least it's a song, and not like the preaching you here from some of these assholes in between songs as if they know more than all of us, because they're rich and famous.
I'll gladly download some decent stuff I like here and there. :)
But I wouldn't waste my money going to a show. And you're correct, while I think they're idiots for preaching politics - if you go to a show and then complain, you're also an idiot.

Why Gabby thinks it's leftwingnut music beats me. I guess you had to not be around to not get it.

Oh I know that, been listening to them since the early 80's. :) I think of just ONE song, "shine on you crazy diamond", and it instantly invokes some crazy memories of the late 80's early 90's and some fun times!

The music of Pink Floyd is multigenerational. My parents loved the music and passed it to me. I played the albums for my daughter and she loved it. I consider "Animals" one of the best albums of the rock era. David Gilmour's guitar solos are lethal.
It is the live show put together by Roger Waters for his current tour that may not appear to conservatives. Trump supporters, in particular.
The music portion was exceptional. The projections and films were more than a bit incendiary.

I remember -sort of- seeing a laser show at the Hayden Planetarium in NY. Couldn't tell you what music was played, though.

"If you remember the 70's, you weren't there." --David Crosby (updating Robin Williams' quote about the 60's).
"This song is from the 70's. Does anyone remember the 70's? Does anyone still think it's the 70's?" -- Dave Peverett of Foghat.

I saw that one too! They ran that as part of their show for a long time. Probably still do! I was still in high school when I went and still a good kid, so didn't get to experience Pink Floyd and all those lights the way it was "meant to be"! :laugh2: http://smileys.emoticonsonly.com/emoticons/s/smoking_a_joint-408.gif

My mom and dad got to see Pink Floyd on their "Animals" tour. I will be forever envious.
My dad got to see pretty much everyone in their original incarnation-- Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Ramones, The Sex Pistols. I am surprised that he has any hearing left.

He was lucky if he got in to see them early on. I'd have given my right pinkie finger to see Zeppelin today!!

My dad saw Zeppelin twice in 1977. He said it was horrendous. The band were into heavy drug use at the time. The show included a 25-minute drum solo, a 25-minute guitar solo and a 20-minute keyboard solo. Page has said that he often forgot where he was in the set.
Not to mention the audience was pretty much out of their minds. Lots of fireworks thrown, along with various other objects.
Far from the band that the did the London reunion show a few years back.
I would rather have seen the Sex Pistols. In January of 1978. They played a country western ballroom in Dallas. There is a bootleg video of the show on youtube. Has a couple of brief shots of my mom and dad in all their hippie era glory.

When the Sex Pistols Played the Longhorn Ballroom
The legendarily combustible punk band played one of its most notorious shows in Dallas 39 years ago this month.
The most famous photo from one of the most infamous concerts to ever take place in Dallas doesn’t have any musicians in it. It’s a photo of the sign outside the Longhorn Ballroom, the country and western dance hall that was once owned by Bob Wills and later by Jack Ruby. “Tonite: Sex Pistols,” the sign reads. “Jan 19: Merle Haggard.”
Thirty nine years ago this month, the Sex Pistols’ ill-fated tour of the United States visited Dallas, and passed into local lore as one of the wildest and most surreal shows in Dallas music history. But when Roberta Bayley, a New York photographer on assignment to shoot the show for Punk magazine took the photo, it was a moment of calm before the chaos.

https://www.reviewjournal.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/8747860_web1_waters_pig.jpgI saw Floyd in Miami in 77. It was not called "Animals Tour". It had a different name. The songs on Animals are actually political socialist babble. Good thing we didn't know that and didn't give a sh*t anyway. You got stoned and cranked the tunes.
Animals is one "album" that I had the LP, the 8-track, cassette and CD.

You are correct. It was called "Pink Floyd In The Flesh."
