The stations are crowd-less as the pictures were shot at night time supposingly by the agreement between metro administration and Canadian photographer. Otherwise it could be impossible, as daily metro transports over 8 million people. It may be interesting for you that metro working hours are since 5-30 a.m. till 1:00 a.m. (the time when the entrance into the stations to close)
The tariff is 35 rubles. An average salary in Moscow is about 70,000 rubles. For pensioners the disabled tariff is free.
The tariff is for entrance into metro only. The distance and number of transfers don't matter.
All the stations shot were constructed since 1933 till 1953.
This is the same "Mayakovskaya" station, but in November 1941.

Russia an it very rich history has always fascinated me!
First, we as a family must arrange a long vacation in Cebu, for my wife to visit her family there--a low estimated cost of at least 10,000 dollars.
Current plan is to do that in about a year, after that a visit Canada for a month to spend time with a dear poet friend...

Passenger traffic launched on Moscow Central Circle railway12 Sep 2016, 09:48Transport

On 10 September, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin launched passenger traffic on the Moscow Central Circle railway.Moscow Central Circle, formerly the Smaller Ring of the Moscow Railway, is 54 kilometres long. It can carry from 150 million to 300 million passengers. “There are 31 stations overall. Today we open 26 of them. According to the schedule, five more station will be launched in the coming months,” Sergei Sobyanin said.
The Mayor said the MCR has turned into Moscow’s passenger ring and is already a part of the capital’s transport system: “There are 17 links with the metro and 11 interchanges with railways lines. The commuter trains come up to the ring, and passengers traveling to the centre can change for the Ring and then on to the metro, another commuter train line or surface transport.”
Vladimir Putin asked how long it took to implement the project up to the current stage.
“We had two years of the actual construction work. In total, taking into account the pre-project stage, it lasted four years. A considerable amount of work was done, as they call it, on the finishing stretch,” the Mayor of Moscow reported.
This is a joint project by Moscow, Russian Railways and the Russian Ministry of Transport. The decision to build the MCR was taken in 2012 despite potential hurdles in the project’s implementation. In the course of the work, about 4,500 structures had to be demolished, 200 kilometres of new main tracks and almost 4,000 kilometres of utilities lines to be laid. Also, 28 engineering structures had to be built: ramps, bridges, overpasses and underpasses.
At the same time, freight traffic will continue to use the MCR railway. “One of the options considered was to cancel the freight traffic, which would have made things much easier,” the Mayor said. “But we preserved it since it is important. Trains come up to the Ring railway, re-group, deliver cargo to different stations in Moscow and then leave the city,” Mr Sobyanin added.
The Circle Railway was built on the order of Emperor Nicholas II in 1903-1908. It opened on 19 July 1908.
Only a small section of the Smaller Moscow Ring Railway was open to passenger traffic, which was closed completely in 1934. From then on, the railway was used exclusively for freight traffic via the Moscow railway centre as well as to serve the industrial areas along the Moscow Ring Railway. The transit was terminated in 2010.
In early 20th century the Moscow Ring Railway ran along the city borders while now it is in the middle section of Moscow. This called for incorporating the ring into the city’s public transit system.
The reconstruction of the Moscow Ring Railway began in 2012 and comprised:
— electrification of the railway ring, including construction of two and reconstruction of three railway substations;
— restructuring of the two main tracks: building high-tech continuous welded rail tracks, which offer smooth and low-noise train movement;
— laying 31 kilometres of additional main track to be used for freight traffic;
— upgrading train traffic control and safety systems;
— constructing stations and setting up interchange hubs).
In the course of the works:
— 200 kilometres of rail tracks were reconstructed and laid;
— 5,000 contact line supports were erected, 400 kilometres of power lines were laid;
— 36 structures were reconstructed including six automobile and one tram overpass bridge.
In total, Moscow Central Circle railway will have 31 stations with comprehensive interchange hubs. The project envisions 17 links to 11 metro lines and 10 links to nine radial railway lines. Intercepting parking lots will be set up at 13 stations with a capacity of 1,500 cars.
Moscow Central Circle railway will employ over 3,500 staff.
Thus, for the first time in Russia, a railway that is part of the Russian Railways network will be completely integrated in the urban transport system.
The four-year reconstruction is also setting a record for work in densely built-up urban areas, which presents many restrictions.
Moscow Central Circle railway will be opened in stages.
At the first stage, starting 10 September 2016, passengers will have access to 26 stations, and the remaining five stations will open before the year’s end.
In the first year of its operation, the MCR railway will have 14 links to the metro and six links to the radial railway lines. The remaining links are scheduled to open in 2017.
How the traffic will be organisedA ride around the complete circle on the MCR will take about 1 hour and 20 minutes. The trains will travel at a maximum speed of 120 kilometres per hour with the average speed of 40 kilometres per hour.
The passengers will be carried by special five-car urban electric trains of the new generation with enhanced comfort level (Lastochka). The cars are equipped with information monitors, 220V sockets, free Wi-Fi and toilets.
The traffic intensity is estimated at up to 134 pairs of passenger trains per day. The interval during the rush hour will not exceed six minutes, with the average 12-minute intervals throughout the day.
If passenger traffic increases, the five-car trains will be substituted with ten-car trains whereas the intervals will be reduced to three minutes.
The trains’ designed capacity is 1,200 passenger for a five-car train and 2,400 in a ten-car trains.
The MCR railway will have the same timetable as the metro. The first train starts at 5:30 am and the last one at 1 am.
A month’s free rides as a giftThe MCR railway uses tickets and tariffs of the Moscow metro. You can change from the MCR to the metro or monorail and back within 90 minutes from the first time you went through the turnstile. For that reason you should keep your ticket until arrival at the final destination.
During the first month of operation from 10 September to 10 October, the MCR railway will be free of charge for all passengers.
The shortest interchange will take three minutes without going outside: you can use a lift or an escalator to walk into the metro hall. The longest interchange will require a 600-700 metre walk of about 10-12 minutes, which is comparable with changing trains in the metro.
The five interchange stations – Delovoi Tsentr, Kutuzovskaya, Ploshchad Gagarina, Lokomotiv and Vladykino, – have the passage to the metro arranged in the so-called thermal envelope so that passengers do not have to walk outside.
Comfort for mobility impaired passengersThe infrastructure of Moscow Central Circle railway is adapted for mobility impaired passengers. The first and the last cars have specials seats. The interchange stations are equipped with lifts and escalators, or special lifts. The entrances and exits at the stations have wheelchair ramps. There are also low-level ticket offices for wheelchair-bound passengers. Just like in the metro, the MCR railway has Mobility Impaired Passenger Service Centre personnel. At a request, they will accompany for free those who find it difficult to move alone in public transport.
Benches, flowers and free phone chargingThe stations have vending machines with hot and cold drinks, and information terminals. At the proposal of the city residents, participants in the Active Citizen project, there will also be sockets for charging mobile phones, benches and flowers for passengers’ convenience.
All interchange stations have convenient navigation. Maps, signs and floor markings have been changed in the metro.
The MCR railway will be serviced by 237 surface transport routes, with 20 of them already adapted for better integration with surface metro.
The freight traffic will be partially preserved mostly in the night-time, which will allow for continued deliveries to industrial enterprises.
Up to 300 million passengers a yearAt its design capacity, the MCR railway will carry up to 300 million passengers a year, which is equal to the full capacity of a metro line. In 2017, the first year of its operation, the number of passengers is estimated at 75 million. Nearly half of them, i.e. 34.5 million, are metro passengers; 20.2 million – railway passengers, 12.7 million – bus riders; 7.5 million – residents of nearby neighbourhoods.
As Moscow Central Circle railway opens, passengers will have around 350 new routes for travelling around the city.
The load is expected to drop at the city railway terminals (20 to 40 percent), and also on the Circle Line (up to 15 percent) and radial (up to 20 percent) metro lines in the city centre, especially in its northern part.
Passengers of the Leningradsky train station will be among the first to notice the difference as the station’s passenger flow will decrease due to a convenient interchange to the Likhobory station of the MCR railway from the NATI platform.
Those who use the Kazansky train station are also going to see a change for the better thanks to a convenient interchange between MCR’s station Andronovka and the Frezer platform of the Kazan railway line.
Passengers on the Kaluzhsko-Rizhskaya, Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya and Sokolnicheskaya metro lines will save a considerable amount of time by using the MCR railway.
Metro within a walking distanceThe MCR railway passes through 26 districts of Moscow with two million residents. Half a million residents of Moscow’s six districts – Metrogorodok, Beskudnikovsky, Koptevo, Khoroshovo-Mnevniki, Nizhegorodsky and Kotlovka, will have the MCR stations within walking distance.
The MCR will connect over 20 universities.
Seven large sports facilities lie close to the Ring railway (CSKA stadium, Luzhniki Olympic complex, Eduard Streltsov stadium, VTB Ice Palace, Torpedo health and fitness centre, Krylya Sovetov stadium, FC Lokomotiv stadium), and also parks and nature zones with an area of 3,300 hectares, including Losiny Ostrov and Luzhniki.
Overall, Moscow Central Circle railway will improve transport service for all residents of Moscow and a large number of Moscow Region residents.
The MCR railway will also have a certain educational aspect as passengers will be able to see for the first time the previously closed and almost inaccessible territories such as ZIL, Losiny Ostrov, as well the historic passenger stations of the Circular railway. Six monuments and museums lie along the Ring.
An accelerator for the development of the city’s industrial areas The opening of the passenger traffic will accelerate the development of the urban territories with an area of 10,800 hectares, or 12 percent of Moscow’s area within the Moscow Ring Road (MKAD), most of which are currently neglected industrial zones. It is expected that commercial facilities in the MCR hubs will create at least 40,000 jobs.
The largest renovation project near the Ring is the construction of a new residential area on the site of the former ZIL plant.
Largest improvement projectThe scope of work on Moscow Central Circle railway is the largest improvement project in Moscow in 2016.
The improvement priorities:
— convenient interchange from the MCR railway to the metro and radial railway lines;
— convenient pedestrian links between the MCR stations, surface transport stops and adjacent residential and public territories;
— unobstructed traffic of busses and cars to the MCR stations;
— improved appearance of the territories adjacent to the MCR.
The improvement work is underway along the whole perimeter of the MCR on the area of over 3,000 hectares and involves:
— territories next to the hubs;
— territories of architectural monuments, e.g. historical stations of the Moscow Circular Railroad);
— sections where the railway right-of-way borders on industrial areas;
— sections where the railway tracks are not among Russian Railways infrastructure;
— other territories adjacent to the right-of-way.
The key improvement targets are the MCR railway interchange hubs with the following work conducted near them:
— building pedestrian passages and pavements that will allow passengers to transfer to different kinds of transport or walk to residential areas or public buildings in the best possible way;
— erecting 146 new type pavilions at the pubic transport stops;
— installing street lighting along the pedestrian routes being constructed;
— setting up a pedestrian navigation system.
The historic stations of the MCR are an important part of Moscow’s cultural heritage. They were not accessible for viewing and free visits for a long time. As part of the improvement programme, 56 historic buildings were renovated, and viewing areas are being set up around ten of such stations.
Industrial enterprises on the adjacent territories will repair the facades of 132 buildings and fix the fencing.
Also, the fronts of 136 residential houses will be repaired and 249 buildings surrounding grounds within Moscow Central Circle railway will be improved.
Architectural lighting will be installed on 22 buildings and transport structures.
A 100-km long fence will be put up along the whole perimeter of the MCR. It will block unauthorised access to the railway tracks. 43.5-km long noise reduction screens will be placed around residential buildings in the vicinity of the Ring.
Additional landscaping work includes planting 3,000 trees and bushes and laying lawns.

If you noticed, there are some people with their smartphones. This is so because WIFI is available in the metro stations and in the tunnels. In Moscow underground and on Moscow Central Circle railway WIFI is free.
