For those that may think it's trivial or inconsequential, let's put it in perspective.

Google started out a losing proposition. Their Internet search protocols were widely regarded the best in the industry.

But they were $hemorrhaging $dollars.

Then they got a viable business model, the topic of this thread, and became one of the wealthiest entities in the solar system.

I've never seen a one-sided coin.
And this issue has to sensible sides as well.

One side? Citizen privacy rights.
The other side? Not stifling business, commerce.

I'm not sure "more" is the issue.
But more effectively targeted may well be.

I wouldn't mind more effective advertising. The problem with the ads I get now is; they offer me spectacular deals on equipment I no longer need to buy BECAUSE I JUST BOUGHT ONE !!

They need to advertise not based on what I bought last week, but on what I want to buy next week.

Fun Fact : Incognito Mode does absolutely nothing to hide any web activity from your ISP. There is nothing you can do to hide your web activity from your ISP.

Got a newsflash for you Gabby ... Congress rubber stamping something they've been doing for decades is not news. Good thing Congress accomplished something important.

They log your data everytime you turn on the tube. They know what you watch and when. Same with the computer. They have when and where you go and what time.

That being said, I consider it an invasion of privacy. There's nothing partisan about it to me. Our government at work. I do NOTHING online anymore but come on this message board. Have a "mandatory to do anything" e-mail account I check about once a year. I don't even listen to phone messages. Call or text. And if I don't know your number? Too bad. :laugh: There'll be a non-answer you can leave a message I won't listen to. :)

Umm, NO, they did not give them the right to sell anything. They removed more regulations.

And NT is correct, you HAVE to surf "through", if you will, your internet provider, so you're not going to be able to hide your activities from them. They already know your habits. Everyone already gets ads based on your surfing habits, maybe just not from every ad server. Google and Facebook already know everything you do, if you ever used either.

I don't agree with congress making it easier, but this shit is already here and won't be going anywhere. That's why whenever I do a gig and work on someone's network or home computer, I educate them on various things to help protect them, even if places are monitoring their surfing habits.

Truth is. Your ISP already has your SEARCH HISTORY with every Click you make. And, every site you visit has COOKIES that are intentionally posted on your Hard Drive. You may notice, some sites want your permission to leave COOKIES. But that...in reality is just a hoax.
Another actual fact about any, and all electronic devices you may have, or use to communicate is...The Govt. has the means already, as well as the ISP's, or PHONE providers....to keep, and maintain every WORD you type, say, or record.

Little do they know. The people on the Internet who claim to have the power to HIDE people from others....ALREADY have the CODES to disclose to the FBI, CIA, NSA, and almost anyone who wants it....That's what Congress gave to the ISP's.

All laughable, just watching the KNOW-IT-ALL's telling us they are safe.
I have more than a few years of Navy Training on computer operation, and the codes used to make everyone visible without them knowing it.

Computer manufacturers are building cameras into notebook computers. And there's no hard switch to turn them off.
