Well having just returned, can't claim I'm 'dying' for my 'Chicago style' restaurants. No, I'm good and back at trying to get in healthy shape. But there will come a time and looks like I may not have to wait until October visit if it hits. I'm only including those that really are from Chicago, not those where folks couldn't cut it there or moved to AZ and decided to use 'Chicago style' because they once lived in Cicero.

An aside, on the list my favorite is Portillos, though I do not eat hot dogs. Their burgers and Italian beef is the best! They mentioned the "Dog House" in Villa Park, the 'original' Portillos? My brother, who does not share my aversion to hot dogs, rode his bike there more than once a week, it was the town west of Elmhurst. It was basically a trailer, the size of a pop-up trailer:

PHOENIX - This year has been a big year for Chicago transplants (and Chicago enthusiasts) living in Phoenix.

Lou Malnati's (http://www.abc15.com/entertainment/events/chicagos-lou-malnatis-pizzeria-opening-location-in-phoenix-will-open-to-public-in-may) opened its first out-of-state pizzeria in Arizona. Two months later, Gino's East (http://www.abc15.com/entertainment/events/chicago-pizzeria-ginos-east-to-open-restaurant-in-phoenix-by-the-end-of-the-year) and Giordano's (http://www.abc15.com/entertainment/events/chicago-based-giordanos-pizzeria-opening-location-in-arizona) announced plans to also open pizzerias in the Grand Canyon state later this year.

It turns out there are a lot of Chicago-style eateries in Phoenix.

...

LOU MALNATI’S

The first Lou Malnati's opened on March 17, 1971, in Chicago. Since then, 44 other locations have opened up in the state. In May 2016, Lou Malnati's opened its first out-of-state location in Phoenix's Uptown Plaza near Central and Camelback Road. The restaurant is known for its pizza, specifically deep-dish.

IF YOU GO:

Uptown Plaza, 100 E. Camelback Road, Phoenix AZ 85012

PORTILLO’S

Portillo's and Chicago seem to be synonymous with one another today, but did you know that the first Portillo's was not located in Chicago? The eatery was first called "The Dog House" and opened in 1963 in Villa Park, Illinois, about 30 minutes west of the city. It was re-named to Portillo's in 1967 and opened its first Chicago location in 1994. If you go, do not forget to walk out with a Chocolate Cake Shake.

IF YOU GO:

Tempe: 65 S. McClintock, Tempe AZ 85281
Scottsdale: 10574 N. 90th Street, Scottsdale AZ 85258

...

ROSATI’S PIZZA

The foundation for Rosati's Pizza began over 100 years ago in New York in an Italian restaurant. But, the first Rosati's Pizza location did not open until 1927 in downtown Chicago. From the dough to the sauce, it is all made from scratch from family recipes.

There are 12 locations in Arizona. Find one near you (http://www.rosatispizza.com/locations/).

...

GINO’S EAST (COMING SOON (http://www.abc15.com/entertainment/events/chicago-pizzeria-ginos-east-to-open-restaurant-in-phoenix-by-the-end-of-the-year))

In July, Gino's East, a Chicago staple for deep-dish pizza, made headlines after revealing its plans to open a pizzeria in Phoenix -- its first in Arizona, too. Gino's East opened its first Chicago pizzeria in 1966. Its Arcadia location is expected to open by the end of 2016.

IF YOU GO:

3626 E. Indian School Road, Phoenix AZ 85018

GIORDANO’S (COMING SOON (http://www.abc15.com/entertainment/events/chicago-based-giordanos-pizzeria-opening-location-in-arizona))

Chicago-based deep-dish pizzeria Giordano's will open a location in Peoria, northwest of Phoenix, soon. According to plans filed with the city, it will be taking over a previous tenants restaurant space in Peoria's arts and entertainment district. Giordano's family recipes originated in Italy. The first pizzeria opened in 1974 in Chicago.

You ticked off about something, little sis? I get the whole "you're not from here" thing. We all wear 10 gallon hats, ride horses for transportation. and wear pointy boots. We live in a Hollywood desert (no saguaro cactus here) when less than half the state is desert. Most of us run around in ball caps, shorts and sneakers. If I tried to put on my boots it's a long flight to the bottom of the stairs.

But when I was youngster, had hair and all that, I worked at a NY pizza joint in Miami, FL. And that was before all these chains got going.

And what you call Mexican food where you live? Pffft.

It's all marketing.

Me ticked off? Nope, just expressing my thoughts on an article. You however, seem a tad hostile.

I rarely read articles. No offense to you. Journalism was what I did in school. These long-winded. say nothing articles mean nothing to me. They violate every rule of journalism that exists. Or used to anyway. I comment on what you say.

I'm here to talk to "you"; not an article.

Well whatever, I certainly wasn't being pissy. Just clarified which were actually from Chicago. We have a place in town here, called "Hog Wild" billed as 'Chicago Style.' It's not.

Did you say "pissy"? Kath is using dirty words. BUSTED.

My statement actually agrees with yours -- it's not. I was commenting on the topic, Ms Tinkerbell. But if you ain't waiting for that :poke: from me ... hah. Sure there's a 3 legged horse you can bet on. :)
