MOSCOW, January 12. /TASS/. Moscow won’t comment on statements by Rex Tillerson nominated by US President-elect Donald Trump for the post of the US Secretary of State before he is officially endorsed, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Thursday.
"After Tillerson is appointed, official statements will be made and we’ll comment on them," the diplomat said.

"Now even the appointment has not been made and there is still a long way for the new administration to take their seats. Give them some time," the spokeswoman said.
Russia has never expected "simplicity in relations with the United States," Zakharova said.
"We look realistically at our bilateral relations," the Russian diplomat said.
Earlier reports said Tillerson told the US Senate hearings he was prepared to support the furnishing of Ukraine with lethal weapons. Also, he spoke for keeping the current sanctions against Russia and called for building up the volumes of propagandistic broadcasting to Russia.

Leftie stupidity (i.e Obama's, principally) aside ... I take the view that Russian-American relations are as easy, or as complicated or problematic, as Russia chooses to make them.

By and large, Balu, whatever strains ever evolve between the diplomatic positions of each country with respect to the other, involve America's reactions to what Russia gets up to. The Crimea situation is one good example ... the annexation of a country through the implementation of an illegal 'Referendum', the integrity of which was strongly questioned and criticised in the West and beyond.

Russia's history is replete with other more historic examples. The Cuban Missile Crisis, which saw Russia threaten the whole of humanity with extinction when the crisis looked like it would lead to nuclear war, is certainly another example !!

Hungary, 1956. Czechoslovakia, 1968. Afghanistan, 1980. So it goes on ...

Balu, you have (i.e Russia has) the chance of a 'reset'. Trump looks like he'll try and herald a new era of friendly cooperation with Russia. Now ... will Russia's behaviour end up sabotaging it ?

Perhaps. Or, perhaps not. Time will tell.

Putin has the opportunity, now, to behave responsibly on the world stage. I certainly hope he takes it, for all our sakes.
