Trump's Season of Treason [Archive] - Debate Policy

Trumpbots, have, since the inception of Trump’s campaign accused those who were less than enthusiastic or outright opposed to the septuagenarian degenerate and his candidacy were somehow…”unAmerican”. Since his “selection” by the Electoral College, those accusations have risen to the level of treason. This is, in large part due to their fundamental misunderstanding of the definition of treason. Treason is defined by Article III, Section 3 of the United States Constitution as follows:

[I]Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court.

This is the definition of treason. It is not opposition to the candidacy of the most eminently unsuitable candidate for President this nation has ever seen…unless, of course, you count Ben Carson. Treason is not principled opposition to the presidency of a man seemingly bent on using that office to enrich himself, his family and his cronies.The man selected as POTUS, however, is flirting with treason.

As evidence of Russian interference in this election, interference which benefitted Donnie, he dismisses the evidence “as a ‘ridiculous’ political attack on the legitimacy of his election as president” (Shattuck, 2016), a legitimacy that will always be in question. With the release of the FBI/DHS report on Russian hacking and its influence on US politics, Donnie blandly replies “It’s time to move on to bigger and better things” (Wagner & Demirjian, 2016), as Putin chides the majority of Americans who voted for Clinton to “lose with dignity” (Filipov, 2016). Like the GOP lost with dignity in 2008 and 2012?

The real question here, to the Trumpbots who think opposition to Trump’s presidency, and the kleptocracy he is creating, is treason should be “Which lies closer to treason? Principled opposition to an unfit POTUS? Or, that POTUS, his cronies and sycophants siding with a foreign power…Russia…in its meddling in the US elections?” The next question the Trumbots need to ask is of themselves, and these people are willing to believe the crazy shit about “Pizzagate” but not the assessment of America’s intelligence community, “How much meddling in US politics by Russia are you going to say is OK?” The Trumpbots need to answer these questions before they start throwing charges of “treason” and “anti-Americanism” and opponents of the coming train-wreck that will be a Trump administration.

You didn't even consider what would happen the next time (if) a democrat won an election - how would that turn out?

I'd like to see him come up with an actual argument instead of cut n paste. Anyone that thinks I read cut n paste needs a new strategy. Something original would be nice.

Dear Leader and his mouthpieces are in full on crisis messaging mode and seem to be willing to start a second cold war and alienate allies in order to change the narrative and damage an incoming president.

Since his “selection” by the Electoral College, those accusations have risen to the level of treason. This is, in large part due to their fundamental misunderstanding of the definition of treason. Think again. If you are referring to those that attacked Obama before he entered office true. I did not. I waited for him to screw up. Same with Trump.

However, Obama has a track record. In a court martial, I could take him down and I'm not even a lawyer.

Right about what? I'm a retired Marine and sat on a couple of court martials. I do my homework. I know what treason is and the standard one has to meet to get there. Rule numero uni is you have to get there. Trump has not been and still is not in a position to even make the accusation. Like him or not.

On the other hand, my dumb little Gunny ass would be more than willing to take Obama, Kerry and Hitlery to a court martial. And I don't gamble. I play when I know I can win. Cases can easily be made against all of them. In a legal setting, not the court of public opinion.

We're in the same boat on Trump, but really ... what can you accuse him of? Winning when he wasn't supposed to?

I find the internet charge of 'treason' one of my pet peeves. Only crime addressed in the Constitution and yet folks just don't get it.

Treason in and of itself is a tough nut to crack. UCMJ statutes versus Constitutional statues are a bit different, although quite similar.
UCMJ statues are based on the Constitution but are much more restrictive. They are Federal Law, by the way.

That one SGT who deserted (Bowe...cannot recall the name?) might be on the road to treason, though because he deserted his post,
and if it shown he aided and abetted an enemy in conflict, his doom might be sealed.

Treason is the term liberals like to trot out and smear all over a screen.

I think that's what I said. And I am or was anyway up to snuff on the differences between military and civilian law. Civilian law makes no sense to me. Too erratic and open to interpretation where none should be.

I just want to say that any problems that I point out about Trump is with the hope of fixing them before they become bigger problems. I want Trump to succeed at advancing the conservative cause.
