There are many uses for coal other than heating and power generation:

Shutting down the mines, as per Obama, Gore, and Clinton would cripple West Virginia, Kentucky,
Maryland, Virginia, and Pennsylvania...also Wyoming.

Shut down the industry and the truckers and railroads suffer, as well as businesses in the coal
mining regions. No jobs? No restaurant patronage, no retail store patronage. I lived through
that in 1975 when a massive strike closed the mines. I lost two jobs because of that. One in a great
steakhouse in Clarksburg WVA - no patronage....the other at a riverside tipple on the Monongahela River
north of Fairmont WVA when I drove an end loader to fill barges bound for the steel mills in Pittsburgh
and Wierton WVA.

The liberal's plan would tear apart that region.

Coal is a very outdated fuel source. Natural gas is much cheaper and cost efficient. The dangers and lasting health risks involved in coal mining are not worth the benefits. Think of all the massive losses of life and the instances of black lung.
Coal needs to be phased out as soon as possible.
