Daddy, Daddy Why Did You Go

I can not keep up, you walk so fast
my legs so short, you fly on past.
Yes, once I saw your forever smile
and your best-est movie-star style.

I can not keep up, you walk so fast
you promised we would forever last.
My heart is now heavy and so slow
daddy, daddy why did you go?

I can not keep up, your dream flees
daddy, daddy I'm on my knees.
So cold on your funeral day
I cried out and fell down to pray.

Please, can I hold you forever more?
Daddy, as you fade to distant shore.

Note- Written after seeing my friend's son, Dylan, cry his eyes out at his father's funeral. He was about 7 years old...

The Tidings

Here beneath the stars,
Far from the whispering eaves,
Tell me thy tidings,
Be they dark as northern nights
I will not fail or falter.

I have built for thee
A dwelling, of green pine boughs,
O' my silent guest.
A light to guide thy coming
Have I set : here take thy rest.
