Today I drove a friend to Phoenix. Left Sedona it was 42. An hour and half later, 64 in Phoenix. Home now, it's 36. Tonight in Flagstaff, a mere 1/2 hour away:

Elevation is everything! LOL! It's -1 at the Grand Canyon this morning. ;)
Until i moved to the East Coast i never knew it could snow at sea level, elevation out west is always the determining factor

That's why nobody lives there!

I can't stand the crap. I'm in jeans and a flannel in the AM, and shorts and a tee by noon. Either get cold and get on with it or get hot.
Elevation means nothing on the East Coast. One of the worst snow storms I was ever in was in Northern VA.

I actually like living in the Hi Desert. Like all things though, "Hi Desert" in one place is not so in another.
And I loved my little jarheads getting no cell service. :). Little bastards. Thought the world was ending.

That's 100% more snow than I have here! It's in the teens, but zero snow... and that sucks.

It very rarely snows on the coast out west...sleet? Yes! But go 25 miles inland
and You will see it. Even with the systems coming down from the Gulf of Alaska,
it rarely does anything right along the coast here..perhaps a snow shower occasionally,
but they do not last or accumulate.
Some of the hardest I saw were in Yorktown VA and Cape May NJ...right on the East coast,
then inland in the WVA and MD mountains.

I hate talking to my Dad on the phone who is currently living in Florida. I'll tell him that it was like 60 degrees yesterday, and then 40 today. He just laughs at me and tells me it's 75-85 down there. But he's moving to Delaware before long, so I'll get the last laugh!
Everytime I hear Arizona and heat I think of 115 degree temperatures!

NOVA always gets hammered hard with the snow storms. I was there as well for like a 2 foot storm, and of course HAD to go out and drive around Arlington, and be the only idiot out on the roads. :)

Phoenix in the summer. No thanks! I'm fussy, don't like super hot, don't like cold. I love snow, but not shoveling anymore.

I would just stay in the house for 3 months! I already kind of do that anyway. But I would melt if I went around in that kind of temps. But I think I would probably love it the rest of the year.

The trick is to head for Flagstaff or Grand Canyon during the worst of heat, (like when Phoenix is 120 and we're 'just' at 100!) Even in the worst of heat, Flagstaff is usually in high 80's or in extreme, low 90's. Grand Canyon? Cooler.

On the coast yes but in the coastal mountain ranges, extremely rare in the valleys and at sea level.
