Should Trump continue to deport Vets?
toss them over the wall?
The federal government lost, misplaced or failed to file the naturalization applications for dozens of foreign-born U.S. veterans who were later deported or face deportation, according to a report released Wednesday by the American Civil Liberties Union of California.
The report titled “Discharged, Then Discarded” documents 84 cases involving veterans.
“They are members of what is unfortunately a growing brotherhood — veterans of the United States armed forces who have been unceremoniously deported,” the ACLU said in a statement.
“Many are combat veterans who sustained physical wounds and emotional trauma in conflicts going back to the war in Vietnam. Many have been decorated for their service. But service records notwithstanding, the U.S. has seen fit to kick them out of the country, sometimes for minor offenses that resulted in little if any incarceration.”

"...stories started to emerge about a group of veterans of the U.S. military living in Mexico (http://projects.aljazeera.com/2014/deported-veterans/) after they had been deported from the United States (a story I previously (https://bbinkowski.exposure.co/life-in-the-bunker) reported (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lg9IXkyCLSM) on) it seemed natural to question what looked like nothing more than a chunk of political kryptonite. However, deported veterans exist (http://www.kpbs.org/news/2012/nov/12/us-veterans-banished-mexico/), although no one — not even the Department of Homeland Security — knows how many (http://www.pbs.org/newshour/updates/served-country-now-cant-live/). Their issue has been slowly brought into mainstream American consciousness largely by the efforts of committed activists in Tijuana...."

Service alone does not guarantee US citizenship. There is a government program where X number of years of service attains citizenship. If it is not explicit in your contract then you fall under the same rules as anyone else with a work visa. Time's up, you go home.
I don't see that as necessarily wrong and the appeal to emotion is rather clear. But a migrant farm worker on a work visa injured on the job doesn't get automatic citizenship.
Should the US government be responsible for the medical requirements of people injured while serving on active duty the same as a citizen? Probably. That is generally paid out in cash on a monthly basis. And if they want to go the VA, they can get a ride same as the rest of us have to.

Rev, it is going to be a very looooong 4-8 years for you. If you want suggestions on how to cope, let me know. I've just endured the longest 8 years of my life.

I never heard of this before either, Rev.
If they are somehow getting into the military, legally, the government knows that - then I think they should be granted citizenship afterwards. At the very least, certainly not 'tossed over the law'. But It's still early for me, and I admittedly only read what you copied and pasted over here.
If they illegally somehow got away with getting into the military, and are of course illegally in our country - then I thank them for their service to our country, but they gotta go! Maybe folks like this can get moved up to the front of the line on the other side to get back in quicker? But on the other hand, should illegal behavior be rewarded?

Btw, Rev, my reply is based on very little information. So I'm willing to bend a little if I found out more information. When someone serves our country, I'm willing to listen.

There's something wrong with this story. You cannot legally enlist unless you are a legal citizen of the US except under the program I previously stated. That program is guaranteed in writing.

Honestly, anything the ACLU gets behind is immediately suspicious to me. They've got an agenda and they shamelessly promote it.
Are we talking about Vets that committed crimes before they were granted citizenship?
While I have a tremendous amount of respect for our veterans, they, too are not above the law and are responsible for their own actions.
If Jose enlists in the army to get citizenship and then screws up before it's a done deal, he's on his own.

I'm with Gunny and NT. it doesn't seem true to me. I would wait for further corroboration before fretting about it. Which is what you should do.
Read the article posted on snopes...lots of caveats in there. Not that anyone would EVER lie on their enlistment papers.....

Everyone should personally investigate this kind of Liberal BS on your own first, before daring to believe this kind of crap. As a Veteran myself. I recall meeting several Non-citizens who wore our uniforms on active duty, and the rewards for doing so, and giving Honorable Service to the nation was. FULL CITIZENSHIP.
So...if this story is gathering interest. Perhaps we should all know the ACTUAL facts.
By the way. Based on the record of the VA during the Obama administration. Why should anyone be surprised that somebody would FORGET, or FAIL to do the proper paperwork for OUR MILITARY MEMBERS.
Is the VA a GOOD example of taking care of our Troops? Or, how about the Lying Obama's, and Clinton's who privately HATE ANYONE IN UNIFORM.?

this story isn't surprising, the country hates veterans, the country gives veterans a lot of lip service but little else, and veterans hate veterans the most, veterans pat themselves and others on the back but little else

How so? This nation and its people treat vets the way they always have. The only vets I know of that hate other vets, or anyone for that matter mostly just hate themselves.

The country as a whole loves and respects veterans. I have seen numerous acts of kindness and generosity toward veterans.
You want to know who really dislikes veterans? The Pentagon. Ask any veteran who has encountered endless waits and bureaucratic red tape while dealing with the VA.
Who has more pull at the Pentagon, veterans groups or lobbyists offering money and gifts?

The Pentagon is no worse than the DMV or any other government agency at any level. The Pentagon doesn't make National policy. It carries out policy. YOUR elected representatives make the policy and pay us. As usual, try again.

That's just more of the typical, liberal BS most veterans are used to gabby. You needed to blame someone, so why not the Pentagon? Actually. Your words are almost identical to every LAME LIBERAL who says things intentionally.....then instantly apologizes, or says you didn't mean to say it....while crossing your fingers behind your back.
In other words. Appeasement toward veterans from the LEFT is like Hillary yelling at anyone in uniform, or disrespecting someone because they are AMERICANS who are willing to tell the truth.
