An unnamed senior al-Nusra Front commander told journalist Jürgen Todenhöfer that the group, considered to be terrorist by the United States, Russia, as well as the United Nations, has received weapons, particularly the BGM-71 TOW anti-tank missiles, from the US, German weekly news magazine Focus reported.
"The missiles were handed over directly to us. Americans are on our side," the media outlet quoted the militant commander as saying. The remarks came in response to Jürgen Todenhöfer's question whether any intermediaries, including the US-backed Free Syrian Army, were involved in the weapons transfers.

Al-Nusra Front has been one of the Damascus' fiercest opponents. The terrorist group has been fighting to overthrow President Bashar al-Assad and establish a caliphate in Syria. The commander confirmed this.

"We will fight until the regime is toppled," he said, referring to Assad's government. Al-Nusra Front wants "to establish an Islamic state that will be ruled according to the Sharia law. We do not recognize any secular state."

Al-Nusra Front was founded as al-Qaeda's offshoot in Syria, but has recently cut ties with the global terrorist network, changing its name to Jabhat Fateh al-Sham (the Front for the Conquest of the Levant). Experts have said that the rebranding has not affected the group's goals or the means of achieving them.
Headquartered in Idlib, al-Nusra Front has also been active in the province of Aleppo and its capital of the same name. One of the largest cities in the country has been at the center of the latest agreement negotiated by Russian and American diplomats. The deal paved the way for a ceasefire and humanitarian aid deliveries to rebel-held areas of the city.

On September 19, the day when the Syrian ceasefire crumbled, a UN humanitarian convoy came under attack that left at least one aid worker and around 20 civilians killed. The US blamed Russia and Syria for the attack, with Moscow and Damascus denying these groundless allegations.

Interestingly, the al-Nusra Front commander also mentioned the UN aid convoy. Keep in mind that Todenhöfer, the first Western journalist to be granted access to Daesh's caliphate, conducted the interview ten day ago, before the attack.
The commander said that the militants would not allow UN trucks carrying aid to enter Aleppo if the Syrian Arab Army does not withdraw "as required."

"The regime must withdraw from all areas in order for us to let the trucks in. If a truck drives in anyway, we will arrest the driver," he detailed.

You know the statement of a famous American:

If voting made a difference, they wouldn't let us do it. There are very serious doubts that U.S. foreign policy is changing depending on the owner of the oval office.

What's really disturbing is that we in the West are expected to swallow Russian propaganda.

Admittedly I don't know about the newspaper in Cologne, Germany. But the first of those links was from Sputnik News ... NOT a Russian source ?

Here's the truth. Russia may be taking action against terrorists in Syria, BUT, their chief concern is to prop up Assad. They - certainly in the earlier days of their bombings - did nothing to differentiate between any factions opposing Assad. All were bombed in turn.

Could it be that we're getting this propaganda as a counter to the British and American position on alleged war crimes committed in Syria, by the Russians ?

If it comes from the BBC, It Must Be True (.. actually, from the British Foreign Secretary) ....

Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson has suggested that Russia could be guilty of a war crime if it deliberately targeted an aid convoy near Aleppo in an attack which killed at least 20 civilians.

He was speaking to Andrew Marr ahead of an urgent UN Security Council session to discuss the escalating military campaign in Syria's second city.

[The reference to Andrew Marr will be an interview he'll have given to Marr, who's a BBC journalist, and anchor-man for his own Sunday morning show on BBC-1.]

How about this ... ?

Now that the Russian government is openly aiding the Syrian army, Russian officials all the way up to President Vladimir Putin could be prosecuted for abetting war crimes, according to former U.S. officials and international law experts.

In addition to over 2,000 barrel bombs the Assad regime has dropped on civilians since July, there is evidence that the regime has used chemical weapons against civilians and employed systematic torture to kill at least 11,000 civilians in custody. All of these actions could form the basis for future prosecutions against the Assad military and top Syrian officials, on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Experts on war crimes prosecutions say that by supporting the army behind these crimes, Russia has opened itself up to the charge of “aiding and abetting” war crimes. It is a young and evolving area of international law, used successfully to prosecute the prime minister of Serbia for atrocities in the former Yugoslavia and to prosecute Liberian President Charles Taylor for helping the Revolutionary United Front and Armed Forces Revolutionary Council during Sierra Leone’s civil war.

Any accountability for war crimes in Syria is probably years away, and Russia has already vetoed efforts to refer the Syria charges to the International Criminal Court. But if a prosecution happens, the experts say, Putin could be held responsible just as Taylor was.

“The Russians are walking into a situation where they could be held criminally responsible,” said Stephen Rapp, who served as the United States ambassador at large for war crimes from 2009 until this year.
