This morning at 1:30 as I turned into my driveway, a Great Horned Owl jumped up out of nowhere and landed in a tree. As far as I know, about the only time they're on the ground like that is when they've got prey.
If the neighbor's mischievous cat comes up missing, I'll know who is Suspect #1.
