Here's one for you to laugh at. I don't know what day Hiroshima is bombed. Sometime in August. I'm sitting in a Japanese barber shop and this guys got a straight razor on my face and I realize he's watching the bombing of Hiroshima on TV. Brilliant ass me decided to get a haircut on whatever anniversary day it was. I didn't get it at first because it was in Jap. I bet my eyes were big as saucers before he got done.
This idiot just looks for ways to offend Americans. I can't believe anyone was stupid enough to vote for him and I can't believe he hasn't been impeached.

That did not sound very clear to me - bomb or bombs;
however to mention that event with such brevity is clearly
ignoring our past and besmirching the lives lost that day.
Not only in Pearl, but in the Philippines as well.

Yes! I recall that 1.3 Mil U.S. and Allied personnel were estimated to perish on an invasion.
Few people these days realize the Japanese Imperial leaders had told their people - man, woman, and

Here's a clue just for you, Mr. Pete! My "panties" cannot possibly be in a wad as I don't wear or even own any. I'll leave that to macho guys like you. Here is another clue that you can share with whomever you like: if you post on a message board, you will often get reactions from other posters.
It is clear that your post is a blatant attempt to turn the discussion in such a manner that YOU control the discussion solely to denigrate other posters and bash those of a more conservative bent. It's called "trolling"; a rather poor attempt at that. I won't repeat the points others were trying to make since I sincerely doubt you would bother to consider them anyway.

You replied to me:
"How can one person twist what was said into an entirely different dimension?

How could I twist your words when I wasn't responding to you? Why are you quoting yourself in response to my message which was not directed to you? I'm not saying you can't reply, I'm just saying, what I said does not apply to you. So I am confused why you posted what you replied to me. I'm not doubting you think Japan is a friend. My message obviously is in response to what two other members said, not what you may have said. This is the point of having the quoting feature. When I reply to a quote I am solely addressing that person.

So Japan, Germany, Italy etc are still your enemy?
Nope. Didn't say that at all. I loved Okinawa. The only Asians I can stomach. The Germans are our friends about like the Saudi's are. Neither of which has a thing to do with here and now. You LEARN from history. You DON'T rewrite or ignore it.
We left Hitler, Mussolini and Tojo unchecked until it cost us a 1000 times what it would have had we just pulled our ostrich heads out of the sand, saw what was going on and stopped it. We're doing the same exact thing the Middle East now. We're letting rogue nations run wild and doing nothing while they build up. When Iran gets nukes we WILL end up in a nuclear war. We and the Russians didn't want to die. Iranians don't care if they die taking everyone else out in case you've missed all the terrorist attacks.
As far as Hiroshima goes? THEY started the shit. I ain't apologizing for finishing a fight YOU start.

You are exactly 100% correct. The isolationist stance of the 1930's caused
our military to weaken and later ignored that our merchant seamen were
getting torpedoed and killed in the Atlantic.
It took the wake-up call of Dec 7 (and 8) 1941 to pull the ostrich heads out of the sand,
which were planted there by a Democratic administration, and finally gear up to help our
allies push back the murdering German and Jap Axis Powers.

Pete, you are so far off track you will never get back on the rails.
I did not see what you are trying to tell he said as being remotely accurate.
Like one other here, you love to try and put words in other folks' mouths, and
get all pissy-faced when they are spit back at you.
I admit, I don't know what the hell you guys are saying sometimes, especially Gunny.
Post 59 I ask if we are also still enemies with England because Gunny said we don't just "get over it". It's a fair question because it asks when do we make amends? After 1,2,3... generations?
Gunny replies with post 64 "I'm harsh with my enemies and people I know are STILL my enemies.". I take that as yes England is still an enemy as is Germany and Italy. You tell me who's being cryptic?

Up until we got involved in WW2 we never had a strong military capable of invasion. Your biased political comment is misleading. It was also a different world back then. We don't fight wars according to civil war conditions or tactics anymore. So we shouldn't use WW2 conditions or tactics on today's wars either.

Pete, you are all over the map with the last two posts.
After WW I, our ability to form an invasion force was sharply cut back
due to draw-downs. Military technology was limited, especially going into
the Depression era.
The political side was to enhance welfare support and programs. We were not
strategically prepared for Pearl Harbor at all. Roosevelt's isolationist policies
did not allow for preparedness at all until it was too late.
I am NOT using WW II conditions at all. You are. The message is to stay
prepared, reinforce our strengths, and be ready.

Yu don't know because I reply to the topic being discussed not each and every one of your specifics. Since my ancestry is half Scottish and half English, why would I consider England my enemy? Again, this the here and now. We haven't been at war with England since the War of 1812.
What YOU are trying to do is play semantics with me and it ain't going to work. Try looking at context. My entire family's been affected by wars and those of us that are vets have seen things that would make a billy goat puke. You don't just get over THAT. THAT is in context with what I said.

When you quote me, that reply should be specific to the quote otherwise I have no idea where you are coming from. So if you were half Japanese you'd be ok with Obama visiting Japan? I'm not asking anyone to "get over" their war experiences. I'm saying experiences from 80 years ago should not dictate how we do things today. That is punishing 98% of a population that had nothing to do with the war and stifles future progression of intercountry partnerships. Obama should be free to visit Hiroshima free from your paranoid fears just as the Japanese PM should be able to visit Pearl Harbor. Neither had anything to do with them. Japan is one of the most friendly and peaceful places I've visited.
You don't get over it, but you move on, or we are no better than the Israelis and Palestinians who hold 2 thousand year old grudges.

The bolded has been shown to be dangerous. This present administration
has shown it ignores that danger.
When will you buy a clue? I can offer one for 5 bucks.
You make a lot of suppositions and tell people what they are thinking. If someone
had a gripe about a certain nation, they would openly state it. It's not up to you
or anyone else to tell people what they are thinking.
I like the French....some do not (example). Who is anyone to tell me why I should

George Santayana
Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. George Santayana (16 December 1863 in Madrid, Spain – 26 September 1952 in Rome, Italy) was a philosopher, essayist, poet and novelist.

Define "baseless" and give example of why its a baseless fear.
And do that after you prove that it is a fear rather than a prudent judgment..

He's not just going to Japan. He's going to Hiroshima. No one said Japan is a threat. They are not. His asshole mentor of 20 years said 9/11 was America's chickens coming home to roost, in part, because we dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
No one should be shocked if Obama apologizes.
