I was never such a huge fan but I do recognize the talent and the innovation. Any time we lose a creative talent, it is a sad thing. He seemed to have a breadth and depth to his talents that we may not really appreciate until some years from now. I am sure there are huge amounts of unreleased material that will eventually come to light.

Ditto! He was one of the greatest talents this world has ever known Nt my type of music but.....
He was a rebel, I love rebels. Some of my funnest memories was with Prince music in the background.

I hate to be a d*ck here, but y'all know ME.

I HATE RIP threads. Prince has been irrelevant since the 80s. And I'm not accusing any individual because I don't pay attention to who does it. But the obligatory RIP is BS to me.

The only reason I say this is because the topic came up between me and someone in a REAL situation with someone he loves. This crap annoys the Hell out of me. Say I'm sorry or something to the survivors. I almost never post in these thread (although I may have hit the Johnny Cash one).

I could care less about Prince. I haven't missed him in 30 years.

And when I die, my daughter has instructions to let you know but if you make a fucking RIP thread about me I'll resurrect my ass and come back and kill all of you. :laugh2:

Dude, I still got my George Strait, Randy Travis and Johnny Cash. And the one thing cool about ABQ is they have an oldies station that plays 50s and 60s stuff.

Does this mean we are old?

Prince was a genius. But it seems he quit using it around 1992.

Wonder if Morrison and Hendrix would have continued their genius or let it waste away.

My wife liked Purple Rain so I heard it a few times but he was way to effeminate for me.

Prince wasn't my favorite, and his style wasn't exactly my style. But he played a mean guitar and could sing pretty good too, even if it weren't rock and roll.

But when I think of Purple Rain, When Doves Cry, Lets go Crazy, Raspberry Beret - they all bring me back to my high school days, and make me think of younger years.

Wasn't a huge fan, but he had some great songs and sounds, undeniably an icon.

Also little known fact - Prince was vegan, as came through in songs like Animal Kingdom:

No member of the animal kingdom nurses past maturity
No member of the animal kingdom ever did a thing to me
It's why I don't eat red meat or white fish
Don't give me no blue cheese
We're all members of the animal kingdom

Not even bleu cheese? Why not? That a vegan thing, vegetarian too? Honest question, obviously I don't know much about being a vegan.

I was shocked to see his home in pictures today. Looked like he lived in some factory type place called "Paisley Park". Surprised he wasn't in some monster sized purple mansion.

Animal cheeses are non-vegan, so vegans will not eat them, blue or otherwise.

Vegetarians depends on the individual, many will eat cheese regardless of source or production, some will only eat 'vegetarian cheese' which is animal cheese that has not had calf rennet (an enzyme harvested from calf stomachs) used to produce it.

Prince wasn't really my type of artist, but he mastered an amazing amount of different instruments. He was extremely gifted, but like many very talented & wildly successful artists, got really eccentric and... weird... over the years.

About the only song that I really like is When Doves Cry... I can't think of anything else of his that I like.

Sad to see him kick off, though. RIP.

I've heard THAT one before. I have everything in the world and I'm tortured. Try having to work for a living and STILL not having enough money. Sorry, no sympathy from me for Cobain, Jackson or Prince. The only one I really felt sorry for was Hendrix. He was totally exploited by his managers. They took every cent he made and gave him just enough money to get a burger. Thar actually happened to Joe Lewis (boxer) as well.

Celebrities kill me. They have everything the rest of us would love to have and pull this "My soul is tortured" crap. Oh wah. "I haven't had to work in 30 years. Think I'll go OD back at the mansion". Crap, I'd have a really nice truck and new guitar if I had all that crap and invite all of y'all to aggravate me at the mansion.

He did not become a celebrity without a lot of hard work. In fact he turned his home into his work.

Since when does money buy happiness?

We don't know he was tortured except he had pain in his hip. He was private, so we don't know for sure.

A message from Prince

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I30fIm0XiqE

Black day, stormy night
No love, no hope in sight
Don't cry, he is coming
Don't die without knowing the cross
Ghettos to the left of us
Flowers to the right
There'll be bread for all of us
If we can just bear the cross

Sweet song of salvation
A pregnant mother sings
She lives in starvation
Her children need all that she brings

We all have our problems
Some big, some are small
Soon all of our problems
Will be taken by the cross

Black day, stormy night
No love, no hope in sight
Don't cry for he is coming
Don't die without knowing the cross

Ghettos to the left of us
Flowers to the right
There'll be bread for all, y'all
If we can just, just bear the cross, yeah

We all have our problems
Some are big, some are small
Soon all of our problems, y'all
Will be taken by the cross

The cross
The cross
