And this kind of talk is what pisses people off. If that's the case, why bother having anyone at all go to the polls, just have the officials choose for us. And yes, I understand the rules and how the delegates/superdelegates work, but it's this attitude that they are in charge, that the elites in the party are more important than the American voters.

Political parties, not voters, choose their presidential nominees, a Republican convention rules member told CNBC, a day after GOP front-runner Donald Trump rolled up more big primary victories.
"The media has created the perception that the voters choose the nomination. That's the conflict here," Curly Haugland, an unbound GOP delegate from North Dakota, told CNBC's "Squawk Box" on Wednesday. He even questioned why primaries and caucuses are held.
Haugland is one of 112 Republican delegates who are not required to cast their support for any one candidate because their states and territories don't hold primaries or caucuses.
Even with Trump's huge projected delegate haul in four state primaries Tuesday, the odds are increasing the billionaire businessman may not ultimately get the 1,237 delegates needed to claim the GOP nomination before the convention.
This could lead to a brokered convention, in which unbound delegates, like Haugland, could play a significant swing role on the first ballot to choose a nominee.
Most delegates bound by their state's primary or caucus results are only committed on the first ballot. If subsequent ballots are needed, virtually all of the delegates can vote any way they want, said Gary Emineth, another unbound delegate from North Dakota.
"It could introduce Paul Ryan, Mitt Romney, or it could be the other candidates that have already been in the race and are now out of the race [such as] Mike Huckabee [or] Rick Santorum. All those people could eventually become candidates on the floor," Emineth said.

Yes, I agree, it's literally a true statement.

I'm not sure Curly Haugland would be considered a Republican "elite."

Fine... But I think you get my point regardless.

That people don't understand the process? This whole "establishment and" "elite" talk is merely the new slur. I remember when Rubio was anti-establishment Tea Party. Now he doesn't fit the mold so he's "establishment." Kasich was part of the Republican take-over in '94 but now he's "establishment" as a highly successful governor.

Wow.
"why bother with the primaries" - "that's a very good question" he responds with.

That's a different subject that pretty much has nothing to do with what this guy has stated about the voters and this process.

Some people have been complaining about this for a long time.
the game is rigged. "the rules" are fixed to keep certain people out. the parties are built to keep the pool small and choices controlled by the establishment.
you can't even get in on the debate circuit except by leave of the party elites. and to even to get on the ballot the rules are rigged. the voting districts are rigged. etc etc
Few care to look at or question "the rules" as long as what they perceive as THEIR guys or gals can get by the gatekeepers though.

I'd personally prefer not. I just don't see a need to. I think it's very important right now with all of this stuff going on with the party perhaps putting out efforts to force a contested convention. I thought this would be a great discussion for all of us to discuss, considering it's already been something on folks mind here. And then when I read this, I thought it applied, and thought I would add it in for others to see how things are progressing towards that possibility, and this was a unique view from someone who will be involved. It didn't make sense to me to somehow shift to something about slurs. Like I said, to me, this convention talk is extremely important. If you feel what you brought up is also important, seriously, start another thread. Or perhaps others may jump in here. I was merely expressing my personal take.

But if that were true, we all know that Trump wouldn't have even made the first debate.

That only proves that money talks.......particularly BIG MONEY. Still, Trump beats the last two presidential hopefuls THEY have shoved down our throats. Allen West is proof of what happens when you don't fall in line. Try getting even a war hero of today within the ranks, nominated or even elected which is more proof that there is an establishment and unless you're wealthy, among the established, a NUT or purely evil, you don't stand a chance among the political ranks.

the game is fixed not completely controlled.
when you go into.. even an honest.. casino they know you're going to loose more than you'll win. And if the casino's corrupt they've rigged the games so the odds are even MORE in their favor. Some people might beat the odds now and then but it doesn't mean the games aren't fixed to various degrees. Or that some "winners" at the tables aren't casino plants.
