Preserve our country to where the founding fathers would be proud, and hopefully leave the nation as such for our children and grandchildren.

We have no culture if we have no nation.. It is not possible, unless we become nomads

@Drummond (http://www.debatepolicy.com/member.php?u=2287),

I look forward to your opinion on this issue.

Jim in post #3 puts it well.

For myself, I'd say that the one leads to the other. CAN you define a nation AS a nation, unless it has its own intact culture ?

To some extent, the UK is faced with this very issue. And on two fronts: one, the extent of immigration into this country (and especially Muslim demands that we forever defer ever more to THEIR cultural imperatives) and two, whether continued membership of the EU cannot ultimately help but pull us further into the EU colossus, whose ultimate aim seems to be to destroy nationhood in all but name.

It comes down to this: a nation worthy of calling itself one, should have a definable culture, and then be prepared to stand up for it .. to say 'This is us, this is what we are, and we as a nation will defend our values and identity to the hilt'. I say that a nation uninterested or incapable of taking such a stand has already lost what it takes to maintain national cohesion .. and might as well surrender to whatever outside influences and interests determined to take it over.

I suppose sheer self-respect must figure in all this. Are you PROUD to have a clear, definable culture, and to represent it ? If not, how do you deserve to represent it ? If you do, then those intent on chipping away at it are that nation's ENEMIES, to be regarded and treated as such.

And could there be any better, fundamental reason for opposing Socialism, than THIS .. ??

By the way -- there was a news item just yesterday which claimed that Obama will campaign to keep the UK within the EU, ahead of our forthcoming Referendum on the issue. A case of Obama interfering in the fundamentals of our politics, to say nothing of the furtherance of his overall Socialist agenda ....

Since we have integrated immigrants of various cultures into our Nation, we have become a Nation of heterogeneous cultures that do not assimilate into a one culture system. Therefore, we have culture clashes, and altercations, leading to suspicions, apprehensions, and sometimes violence.

Meaning what, then ? That America has NO distinct culture, of values, of its own ... and none worth fighting for, to preserve ? Is that what you're saying ? Your Foundling Fathers had no vision, and no intended direction ... is that your claim ?

What you truly have is a country in which Liberalism has already made too many inroads. It is those inroads which have weakened your country's resolve to BE what it was always INTENDED to be. Get rid of the debilitating cancer of liberal thought and America will, I'm very sure, be much the stronger for it.

As you have seen in your own country, that is easier said than done. Our leaders have determined that saving the culture of America should take a backseat to any other need. America is not the America of my childhood, and is worse off for it.

Which "culture" do you want preserved? Either way the question is wrong. The Constitution should be preserved.

hmm, I thought it was a general question about 'any' country?

Hmm, could be. But my question still stands. :poke: The rights of man should be preserved IMO though many countries, including ours, do not meet that ideal.

While I agree that would be ideal, I'm not keen on trying to get all countries on board with Western Civ values, if I didn't always think a good idea, the past decade certainly would convince me.

Like democracy in particular? I don't disagree with that as economic freedom can exist even without the right to vote. But life, liberty, property shouldn't be seen as Western Civ values.

They are seen as Western Civ values. Many places women and 'lesser' classes can't hold or even inherit property. Can't disobey father, brothers, husband or lose life. Never allowed liberty in any mode at all.

I hope you didn't spend all night on this one. You cannot divorce the nation from its culture. It's important to keep both but let's keep OUR culture, not someone else's. We're a bunch of white Europeans. We built the place. Don't have to agree with how we did it, but we did it. Then along comes the whiny sh*ts and their lawyers. Lucky us.

But today's culture is far different than 1780's culture.
