My wife rarely sits down to watch TV and although I do for at least an hour during weekdays I've been watching Amazon Prime exclusively for the last few weeks.
This convinced me that it was time. After five years of paying a monthly fee, I dumped it. They are sending a box for me to return their equipment. The only recurring fee that I have left of this type is internet and cell phone.
I'm thinking of getting an "HD" antenna to pick up local TV stations for the rare time that I watch network TV.

Dish is crooked as hell.
My Mom and Step-dad had Dish so he could watch golf channels.
After he passed away, she did not want it any longer and requested it
be disconnected.
Since her name was not on the account, they would not do it, even
though she sent a copy of the death certificate to them.
They kept billing her at $87 a month for 7 months.
They were defrauding a WWII vets surviving spouse.
I called them and told them to get rid of it, and it took me
threatening them with a corporate lawyer, U.S. Senator
and an FBI Consumer Fraud Agent who I know personally .

Holy shit, that's worse than my deal with ATT. Lesson when dealing with Big Corp: they have a process, and if your situation is not in conformance with that, it will cause a big fuck-up. So if you have to, to stay within their typical process, lie to them. You should have said that you were the old man.
When I called Dish, the man asked me "Can I ask why you are stopping service?". Again, part of their usual process. In this case, it's to try to give them another chance to retain my business. In this case, the way they phrased the question, "no" was an acceptable answer, and so that was my answer. The remainder of the conversation was that they were sending me a box to return their equipment, and would charge me $9.60 for that, which included the pre-paid return postage.

Last night I finished up my binge on The Pacific (Amazon Prime). The short exposes of the actual characters was the most interesting.

I dropped Dish back in 2001 after having had it for almost two years, never have looked back. It was a big rip off back then and has only increased in that riping off since IMHO.
They send me new offers several times a year, I toss them in the GARBAGE CAN UNOPENED.-TYR
