I could have told you THAT. My dad speaks both and I speak Spanish. Worked with a guy for a couple of years that told me the same thing.

But guess what? the rules to European languages are the same. And how many centuries ago was it Arabs invaded Spain? The French stopped them. The Spanish didn't. There's no secret.
