Helicopters dont carpet bomb.... They are most effective at attacking individual ground targets at a distance. This makes them good against formations of armor units where multiple helicopters take on targets one at a time with missiles similar to the AGM-114 HELLFIRE or Russian 9k114 Shturm anti-tank Missiles. Choppers are the snipers of air warfare. They can never "Carpet Bomb" an area in large formations like bombers can. They just cant carry enough munitions.
so for true carpet bombing there is only one weapon, the Strategic Bomber like the B-1/B-2/B-52 or the TU-160 or to a much lesser extent TU-95. The Russian Air Force has 13 active TU-160's and the TU-95's and their variants are obsolete and used for Recon Missions and ASW roles.
The Majority of the Russian Bomber force is comprised of the obsolete "Backfire" Bomber TU-22M of which there are less than 100 in active service.
and TU-22m's cant carry anywhere near enough to be effective Carpet Bombers... They were designed to carry Nuclear weapons at supersonic speeds.
yes... some of us are well versed in Russian Military Hardware .... and we're hardly impressed by it. They are crudely built, badly Maintained and mostly obsolete.
The best piece of Hardware the Russians ever made was the AK-47... That cant carpet bomb either.
I'd like to see Putin go nuke on them.
Can you imaging what the wail will be in YOUR Mass Media and the State Department should we use even thermobaric bomb, which is much more effective than carpet bombing?

Saturation bombing/carpet bombing is the intense bombing with unguided bombs of an area to inflict maximum damage to a certain area.

Which you cant do with Helicopters...
But you can do it with JDAMS and B-52's.. Ask the Republican Guard how that worked for them in Iraq.... B-52 strikes scared them more than almost anything... The USS Wisconsin (BB-64) scared them in the First Gulf war more....
Saturation bombing/carpet bombing is the intense bombing with unguided bombs of an area to inflict maximum damage to a certain area.
Carpet bombimg is bombing of areas without aiming at certain targets.
Helicopters work against certain targets, but not areas, no matter guided, or unguided missiles or bombs are used and how intensive firing the target is. ;)

An air strike is a strike against a specific building. Saturation bombing is against an area where you know there is enemy activity but you don't know their specific location.

Damn battleships are purely scary. I ran the cutter's small boat up alongside
the New Jersey when it was off-loading ammo in Long Beach.
The freaking barrels of those turret guns were longer than my boat.
Would be nice to see them back again to fuck with ISIS.

In fact they probably would ship it to Turkey and Saudi Arabia to use them as a third party to cover themselves so they can then give it to ISIS.

Where is Russia when other countries are in need? Not speaking solely of wars, but even when military ships are constantly sent in for aid to countries during tragedies? But lets also add in places where terrorists are. Not much at all. Been that way as long as I can remember. Talk a tough game but always come up short. As for you Christie, make me laugh. Not my fault you live with a government full of pussies to scared to help or get involved. You talk about the US doing this wrong, or doing that wrong - but no mention of countries like your own that just whistle and look in the air and hope the problem goes away. That's why you guys are dealing with such an issue with the muslims right now.
So take the jabs all ya like, we still have the best military in the world, from the best country in the world. Always first to others aid and to donate the most money, and always the first to come in and kick some ass. Yeah, yeah, talk smack now, but that's simply the bare facts.

I look at it as a temporary setback. I hope if someone with balls gets at the helm, we'll do a little more building up, and hopefully do a shitload more in going after ISIS before they find their way to us. Imagine if we're relying on Hillary with one of the worst threats ever on the horizon?

Please don't make me even think of it...
but more importantly, if he's only going to drop some bombs here, some more there, then what's the point. And if the US is in Iraq and Russia in Syria hitting them hard, then more will come into Iraq. IMO, it needs to be a massive hit from both sides. And even then we will have the smaller cells and individuals to deal with.

There's a part of me that feels, when it comes to Isis, the damage Obama has done may be irreversible. And his pulling out if Iraq will not go unpunished, I fear

The BEST army must be able to defend your country. Can yours do it?
Your experience is to fight only against underdeveloped countries and then with a negative result.
What the sense to continiusly repeat your mantras? For complacency only? You must remeber yet, that the next day after the launch of Russian cruising missiles from Caspean Sea, your aircraft carrier Theodore Roosevelt noiselessly left the Persian Gulf. http://www.kolobok.us/smiles/standart/dntknw.gif

The Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group left U.S. 5th Fleet on Tuesday with no public timeline for when its replacement will reach the Middle East to continue U.S. air strikes against Islamic State in Iraq in Syria (ISIS) targets.
The Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group is slated to be the next CSG bound for the Middle East, but the Navy would not specify a deployment time other than later this year, a service official told USNI News on Tuesday.
Were not going to talk to future operations, the official said.
While in 5th Fleet, the Roosevelt CSG was the largest symbol in the U.S.-led anti-ISIS collation responsible for 1,812 combat sorties totaling 10,618 combat flight hours, taking on 14.5 million gallons of jet fuel and expending 1,085 precision-guided munitions, as part of Operation Inherent Resolve, according to a Tuesday statement from the service.
The ship is now bound for its new homeport at Naval Station San Diego, Calif.
