A gun owner in Seattle is not in favor of altering current laws. A more pressing need is improvement of the nation's mental health system, which has suffered since it was defunded by Congress a while back.
The solution makes sense. If we could identify and treat mentally unstable people, they would be off the street and not have access to firearms. This would work better than taking guns away from everyone.
Unfortunately, improving the mental health system is going to take a ton of funding. Which means someone is going to have to pay for it.
The author outlines a proposed solution in a piece in the Seattle Times.

Since the gun-rights groups feel very strongly that we need such a system and since guns are the major contributor to that need, let’s have gun and ammo sales support it.
Let’s put in place an excise tax that triples the price of guns and quintuples the price of ammunition and then direct these taxes to establishing an efficient, functioning mental-health system. Let those who want to own and use guns help pay to fix the problem.
How funny, so even though we know it is mental illness and not a piece of metal that kills, we should still take the guns because it is cheaper, meanwhile you still have mental cases out there just looking for a way to kill someone. But have no fear because the liberal mind felt it was to expensive to work on mental illness, no they took guns so we all can feel safe, the mental case that was still out looking for someone to kill, well he will just have to forget it, cause God knows he couldn't kill with anything other than a gun
Or better yet, punish the people that say "look at facts, the cities with the most crime also have the toughest gun laws, more gun laws just make it harder for the folks that aren't going to commit a crime with their gun to get one, it will do nothing to criminals, because a well yea, there a little less than honest to begin with, look at there jobs." yea make those folks pay, yea that will fix them  but of course lets not hold Obama responsible, you remember, the stimulus was going to fix all this, yea a bunch of money was going to mental health, well hell the stimulus was going to fix our country, wonder where all that money went, but the hell with it, lets punish the guys that make sense.

Obviously you either didn't read the story or failed to comprehend the meaning.
The author is a gun enthusiast. She is in favor of owning guns and, in fact, encourages everyone to buy weapons. She just thinks you should pay more for guns and ammo in order raise money for mental health care. Which would get the crazies off the street and keep them from owning weapons.
The same approach was done with tobacco. Raise the price in order to pay for health care needed.

You people are dumb. When you can stop wetbacks from coming across the border you might make headway into stopping smuggled, Middle European Russian knock-off weapons.

Why should Mexicans smuggle weapons across the border when they can buy American weapons at gun shows?

Half-baked idea. Mental health services and psychiatric hospitals (which are really prisons) benefit all of society so all of society needs to pony up to pay for them.

They can't. That's BS. Who the hell do you thinks wants an AK bullet thrower? But what's the favorite weapon of gangbangers? Only thing I want to be on a drive by is the damned target. They hit everything and everyone else.
READ MY LIPS: You're in this country illegally with an illegally automatic weapon, dumbass leftwingnuts don't need to be accusing the gun nor the law-abiding citizen.

Or even better yet, stop providing illegals with benefits and take that money for mental healthcare.

And take the 500 trillion dollars we give Planned Parenthood and use it for mental healthcare.

The whole blaming the gun argument is just stupid.

Yes I read it, she is all for guns but wants to punish the gun owners, yea sounds like most folks I know, they love something so hell punish the people that enjoy your hobbies. Get with the program Gabs, Mental Health was suppose to get a major amount of money from the stimulus ( that failed ) why pass the cost of something this country ought to be doing, onto folks that obey the law. Pass the cost onto the trolls that in one post talk about what a great shot they are and then in the next post brag on Obama and say they should just re do the 2nd. Yea Gabs I read it, but she sounded as confused as you, so I am guessing another brainless lib.
