Saturday's Papal mass in Philadelphia featured several world renowned performers, including Aretha Franklin and Andrea Bocelli. My sister's former foster child Lisette got to attend due to her friendship with the Colombian singer Juanes. She was in an area reserved for guests when the Pope walked by outside the door. Someone yelled out "Papi te queremos!"
The Pope stopped, briefly stepped in the room, thanked everyone for coming and asked them to pray for him. Then he went his way.
Lissete said she was standing about 20 feet from the Pope. She was awestruck. As I am sure any Catholic would be.
Other than that, security conditions were reportedly quite extensive. Those with seats for the Mass had to go through three different security cordons. I am guessing downtown hotels were not cheap, either.
