That was the laughable part. Everyone who has ever had any kind of smart phone or used a computer - let alone had a personal email server set up - is fully aware of what a 'wipe' means.

The fact that she had a personal email server set up and avoided using the government servers against the rules shows that she intended to avoid scrutiny of her dealings as Sec of State.

Her ignorance of such things, though, shows. Anyone she did communicate with on the normal system is all archived - including what she wrote previously in the email string. Having her own server doesn't magically scrub her activity from the other servers. So all of her expensive and illegal attempts at privacy were doomed from the outset, and that's due to her understandable reluctance to talk frankly with her IT person as to her goals with the entire project. Any IT guy with full knowledge of what was going on would told her that what she was trying to do was impossible.

And after the fact, that same IT guy would have destroyed the hard drives because the FBI is very good at recovering data from wipes and would have identified a thorough scrubbing as destroying evidence - which it most certainly would have been. Instead, she had it wiped normally, believing that to be adequate.

But she couldn't talk frankly with an IT person about what she wanted to do and the real purpose of her server, because now you're talking about Conspiracy charges. She asked the wrong questions.

So some of her professed ignorance is legit, that much is clear. Very amateurish performance from one of the usually teflon Clintons.
