I talk with people and observe workplace practices. Lately I have noticed a pattern: pay less. Individually, women tend to be "security oriented" and less insistent regarding pay. This results in lower pay for them. This latest pay less strategy results in more female employees. Men are more likely to leave when they are underpaid. They are less likely to accept a lowball employment offer. Companies call this a win-win. Do you think we have pay inequity because men are overpaid or because women are underpaid? The best choice for men is to work as independent consultants, with the associated higher pay rate, but less security.
