Yikes, they do sound awfully similar. And look at the name of the one song. I honestly don't know the history of either song, just stole this from FB from a black friend of mine that posted it. And I only pointed that out, because he was a funny bastard growing up! He actually posted it on FB for humor, saying he still chases the truck down the road when he hears the song! But damn, I'll bet all the folks that listen to both of these songs will hear it differently from now on!

So the whole song is based on an IRISH MELODY called THE OLD ROSE TREE, Renamed Turkey in the Straw in the Early 19th century and not given the "N-Word" version until 1916.

Kinda like the Star Spangled Banner was originally a British drinking song.

So the racist song came after the normal tune? I'd hate to think that the ice cream man I've been chasing for 40+ years was a secret moving KKK stand. Either way, kind screwy. I thought maybe the ice cream man made his tune based on racism. I'll still think of the bad song every time I hear it now though!
