My front runner, thus far, and I don't like his stance here. I recall reading awhile back his lengthy path to citizenship. Not sure if any specifics have changed since. Don't have anything to post here regarding his position, but wanted to start a thread anyway. Hopefully I/we can add more as known. Those were "my" 3 candidates thus far, so I posted them - Rubio, Trump and Cruz.

Never forget that if we lose the immigration battle we lose everything. There are not enough Republicans to overcome the hordes of illegal immigrants coming here to support Democrats.

In 2013, Rubio was the face of the Senate’s “Gang of Eight” comprehensive amnesty bill. The Congressional Budget Office determined that Rubio’s legislation, which would give nearly every illegal immigrant in America a pathway to citizenship while massively increasing legal immigration to unprecedented levels, would lower the wages of American workers. After championing the Gang of Eight bill that passed the Senate, Rubio’s poll numbers plummeted.

Your opinion. We (Republicans) will lose everything if we sell out for one issue. Besides, we've had immigration for our entire history.

MOSTLY agree with you. We have had immigration our entire history, and it helped make our country great, but we're talking illegal immigration. And yes, I know we've always had that too, but it's hitting new highs. And laws are not being enforced. And folks that have already broken laws are more or less then being awarded for breaking those laws. And then folks in our country are suffering in various ways as a result. I think as more and more of this one issue is fixed, the negative results will then obviously diminish more and more. And even if someone says "amnesty for all" and problem is solved. We would still need a fix as the problem isn't just going to go away. And the easier, and more lax things become, it will grow.

You quoted me on the first part. The second part explains why. I cannot imagine how anyone can think otherwise.

And don't tell me about immigrants. I am one. But I have a different mentality from our present immigrants.

Please, fj1200, explain to me how the conservative/Republican agenda is going to pass if we allow tens of millions new Democratic voters to join the ranks?

Make it less attractive economically to come here than to stay home, and most will stay away.

Except for those in cruel regimes. Freedom will always be enticing to those folks.

I completely agree that it needs to be fixed but I disagree with the fire and brimstone proclamations. Our problems are not because people want to come here to work.

^Strawman. You think that your immigration opinion exists in a vacuum. Please show me what the mentality is of present immigrants.

And do it in a way that "sells". Support immigrants; oppose human trafficking. Paying less that the prevailing wage constitutes human trafficking. Can you hear me now, VERIZON?

YES on visas for skilled workers Favors immigration reform

This one is a real GOTCHA: The H1B Visa is corrupt. It borders on indentured servitude. It's rigged so that the recipient can't change jobs, resulting in below market wages and an oppressive working environment. There are numerous cases where laid-off US workers were required to train their H1B replacement to receive their severance payment.
