They promised that this will be a full, but not trial version.
Everything - fee of charge.
So, we'll see how it works.

I decided to upgrade to Win 10 a while back... but it hasn't executed yet. I expected to wake up this morning with a new operating system.

It could be that Asus doesn't have their specific version of it ready yet.

I registered for it when the little icon showed up on my Windows 7 screen, but I haven't installed it yet....and am content to wait a month or two.

THE GOOD Windows 10 bridges the gap between PCs and tablets without alienating anyone. The new OS combines the best bits of old and new Windows features into a cohesive package, while correcting nearly all of the missteps of Windows 8. The upgrade process is mostly painless, and free for most Windows 7 and 8 users.
THE BAD Many of the new features will be lost on those who don't care about touch. Automatic, forced updates could spell trouble later on. Cortana's features are better suited for smartphones.
THE BOTTOM LINE Windows 10 delivers a refined, vastly improved vision for the future of computing with an operating system that's equally at home on tablets and traditional PCs -- and it's a free upgrade for most users.

Perhaps the most notable thing about the new platform is that you don’t have to pay for it, so long as you already have Windows 8 or Windows 7. But if you’re looking for a reason or two to update your current Windows 8 machine or aging Windows 7 box, here are the top new features in Windows 10 that might make you want to.

Me, I have Asus, and the program and all the drivers were installed fine. Moreover, all the additional programmes installed by me seem working fine too.

Our computer guys noticed a tendency. 98 - fine, 2000 - shit. XP - fine, Vista - shit. 7 - fine, 8 - shit.
So, let us see. http://www.kolobok.us/smiles/standart/smile3.gif

Good to hear.

Microsoft is saying they're sending out the upgrades in waves, so it's anyone's guess as to when my update arrives.

I usually don't participate in first-release Windows events, but I've not been overly impressed with 8.1. The first thing I did was get my start menu back via a 3rd party tweak. If I had Win7 on this machine, I would have waited until the bugs are worked out before making the jump.

I decided not to wait for any notice, but upgraded it in a hand mode, clicking on the icon on the bottom bar. They promised to start distributing this OS beginning from July 29th, and I succeeded. http://www.kolobok.us/smiles/standart/smile3.gif

Well.. that's close!

Win 3.1 was good, 95 shit, 98 shit, 2000 shit, XP good!

Remember 3.1, 95 & 98 when you installed something like a soundcard and it conflicted with other hardware? All you'd see was "IRQ conflict." It was up to you to find the conflicting hardware and choose another port. It would by default set it to IRQ 13 and you'd need to trial-and-error your way until you found that 19 was available. I spent many hours troubleshooting an unhelpful OS that just told you it wasn't working.... no list of available settings, just that it didn't work.

Fortunately for me, I knew how to work DOS back then, so I'd drop to DOS and fix the problem there without blundering around in GUI areas that could easily cripple your computer. More than once I ended up wiping the machine and starting over with a simple sound card install.

XP was a godsend!

Windows 10 is only free for the first year. Then they charge you for the basic package. If you don't like W10, you can't retrofit.
I will stay with Windows 7.

Nope.

Users taking advantage of the free upgrade from Windows 7 and Windows 8 can continue to use Windows 10 as valid license owners indefinitely.

Those who for some reason don't upgrade until after the offer has expired will likely have to pay for Windows 10.
