People suck.
The fountain at the WW II memorial is not the slip and slide at Busch Gardens. I apologize to the Greatest Generation, I'm afraid it's my generation that's raising self-involved, entitled children with low SAT scores - who mistakenly believe bucking authority is funny. Hey parents, get out of the water - set an example and#raiseYOURkids (https://www.facebook.com/hashtag/raiseyourkids) SHARE if you agree. Curt Autry NBC12

Part of the problem is a nation where military service is voluntary and, at least most Democrats, push their own not to serve. Now we even have Republican Presidential candidates demeaning vets and POWs. By that measure, idiot civilians cooling their feet in a fountain is just another sad example of a clueless public.

Though it is seemingly very disrespectful for those people wading in the fountain at the Memorial.
Why is anyone surprised to see people OBVIOUSLY IGNORE rules, and laws when we have a Pretender
in the White House, and Pretenders in Congress who NEVER PAY ATTENTION TO LAWS, or RULES either???
They are just taking advantage of the IGNORANCE, STUPIDITY, AND DUMBNESS being shown by pretend leaders of VIOLATING OUR LAWS.

This really bothers me. It's akin to dancing on a grave to me, or disrupting a memorial service. These people gave their lives for the world.
Like I said above, people suck.

It's as stated. Generational. Last time I was there, the WWI Memorial (I believe it is called the Veteran's Memorial) was overgrown with weeds and dirty as Hell. They're all dead. Why take care of their memory? That's the mentality.
I also loved that directly across from the Lincoln Memorial were a bunch of "Vietnam vet" panhandlers who were my age. I was too young to go to Nam.
As far as violating our laws, if you were a cop, would YOU want to enforce them? Obama's made it clear --- cops can only enforce laws if you're white and conservative.

Put a Marine on guard. Allow him to shoot if anyone puts so much as even a toe in the water. Problem solved.
But someone should have at least embarrassed them at the top of their lungs, make it clear that these people are disrespectful scumbags.

No. NO. And No. The last thing we need right now is a Marine on guard. We know our General Orders. The last thing we need is people beaten, shot and stabbed by Marines.
General Order #1. Take charge of this post and all government property in view. That means you ain't coming on my post without proper authority and I'll use whatever means necessary to keep you off.
BTW .. I love the Army guys at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. They don't take ANY shit. You want to get rowdy you better find some other place. You'll end up with a butt-stroke there.

Agreed, but I think it's done out of ignorance, not deliberate desecration like this:
http://www.dallasnews.com/news/crime/headlines/20150720-video-shows-pair-vandalizing-confederate-monument-in-denton.ece
A vandal defaced the Confederate monument on the Denton County Courthouse Square, a few weeks after a similar monument was vandalized in Dallas.
Between Sunday afternoon and Monday morning, someone spray-painted “This is racist” across the memorial to Confederate soldiers outside the courthouse.
The Denton County sheriff’s office was investigating after the county judge’s office reported the vandalism Monday morning.
County Commissioner Hugh Coleman said he was on the Square enjoying his morning coffee when he was told about the graffiti and took a look for himself.
“Whether you like something or not, there are better ways to express yourself,” Coleman said.
Surveillance video shows that two people used large stencils and red spray paint to write the words on the monument. They then met a third person near the square and the three fled on foot, the video shows.

There are always degrees of bad behavior, and your example is very bad. But when you wade and frolic right in front of a sign that clearly says, "Honor Your Veterans No Wading", it is pretty hard to claim it was done in ignorance.

While it's not an excuse, it's also easy to see how they could over look a small sign.
I'm sure the guards got them out fairly quickly. In the first decade of this century, I would go to Washington DC every summer for a week for work. Most of my peers would party the night before each day's activities, but I'm a wet blanket and would go to bed about 10, then rise early and go for a 3-4 mile jog. I'd use the opportunity to take pix. It was after a few times of doing this that I noticed a small sign on the Lincoln memorial that stated "no running on memorials" or something to that effect. I complied, of course. Ignorance is no excuse, but it's not the same as doing something deliberately.

The 60's and 70's left a nation in mass depression, at the end led by the malaise in chief. Reagan ended up being able to pull the country out of its doldrums.
In 7 years Obama has led this nation to one on the brink of war between segments of itself; a nation now unable to lead internationally-in a very dangerous world. We need a healer and a leader for our international standing. It's a huge position to earn.

Not the memorial, just the little 18"x12" sign off to the far left side of the memorial:

FWIW, I've jogged through cemeteries such as the Ft. Smith National Cemetery. Only on the roads, of course. Is this wrong? There are no signs saying I can't and no one has asked me to stop.

I'd say enjoy it while you can. The way things are going, a Confederate cemetery may get dismantled.

Too close to being true to be funny!
There's a lot of "unknown Confederate soldier" tombstones in that cemetery along with a lot of unknown WWII markers.

We used to run every day through Ft Meyers, Arlington Cemetery (and of course on the roads) , past the Iwo Jima Memorial, across the Memorial Bridge. Around the Lincoln Memorial was 3 and half miles. Down the mall and around the Washington monument was 7.9. If you got REAL ballsy, going all the way around the Capitol was 12.7.
You take all that stuff for granted when you're stuck there. I couldn't stand most of those places. My mother was always "we need to go sightseeing so the boys can get some culture." AKA we're going to another dead guy's house. I think I've been in every dead guy's house in the US, Greece and Turkey. I wanted to stay home and play football with my friends.
As a Marine, we'd get drug off to old civil war battlefields. They looked like cow pastures to me. I just never had an appreciation for that kind of stuff.

I'd run from our hotel, which was about a block from the WH, down to the Washington Monument, past the Lincoln Memorial, over the Potomac to Arlington and to the Iwo Jima memorial then back. That was a little over 4 miles. Another run was from the hotel to the Washington then the Jefferson memorials, past the George Mason then around back to the Lincoln. That was a little shorter at about 3.5.
Agreed about not appreciating many of those sites in my younger days.
In the bottom picture of the Lincoln memorial I posted, you can see a group of men in black running gear. Those were a group of young Marines being run by what I guessed (by age) was a Sergeant or SSGT. I was going toward the memorial as they were going toward the Washington monument. The SGT saw my USMC t-shirt and called out "Good morning, sir!" In my best command voice I called back "Have a great fucking day, Marines!" The Sergeant did his best to not bust out laughing.

Someone needs to be patrolling the area. Also, no one in the crowd bothered to remind these people of their lapse in judgement. I'm not outraged like you are, but a $1,000 fine attention getter is certainly in order.
It may be interesting. The first half is in English, the second - in Russian. But it doesn't matter. The words of "Grandsons" are the same. The point is - the behavior of surrounding people.

Pity a poll couldn't have been conducted at the time, asking 'How many of you are Democrat voters' ....
