L.E.D. Lights

well I installed the first part of the L.E.D. lights on the bike and yea it looks cool, but the saftey factor is off the chart, coming down the road the bike is so well lit up at night it is unreal, anyone that has a bike ought to look into them.

That is two sets of light and I plan on putting 2 more sets on it, they ought to be able to see me from space after that. :laugh:

A bit off topic. I replaced all of my CFLs at home with LED lights. I noticed right off the bat how much brighter they are than CFLs or incandescents(even though they are 60 W equivalents).

I think it's because LEDs use almost all of the energy funneled into them for producing light instead of heat.

I have to ask, though... aren't all those extra lights illegal? I know the trick lighting installed on cars up here get pulled over and ticketed all the time, usually it's kids with 'ground effect' lighting under the car and setups like that.
I assumed that additional lighting on all road vehicles was illegal anywhere, the reasoning was that it can be confusing to other motorists. I always thought it was a chickenshit move to hassle people over more lighting (as long as they weren't blue, of course) and I even got hassled once for my big lights up on my truck's light bar that I used so I could see any moose on the highway ahead.

I know here in NY, kids will sometimes install these kits underneath their cars to make them shine brightly or glow. Depends on the cop, but you most definitely can be cited for it. But I think they will be more lenient with a biker who is using it for illumination for safety.

Thanks NT, they say if you put red or blue they are illegal, I know if they are red and/or blue and flash they are but no the white lights are legal, they enhance the chrome on the bike and while doing so they light me up so much no one can say I never seen him ( although I am sure some will ) It all depends on the color you pick is what I have been told.

I always consider such things from the point of view of Safety.
For the most of car drivers the bikers are invisible as their sight and attention is not "tuned" to this objects. That's why the appearance of bikes is unexpected for them. So, any additional measures to attract their attention are very reasonable.
