I submit that you must have been educated in the post-80's. The US Civil war was fought for power, money and control of Washington DC. Not slavery. The US accused the South of slavery and I will give you just this ... the South took the bait and tried to defend it.
The US Civil War was fought because the North wanted high tariffs to force Americans to buy their goods while the South wanted low tariffs because it made more money overseas than the North was willing to pay. Slavery was an excuse. It has and still exists today. But that isn't the only time the US has used a lame-ass excuse to force itself on others, is it?
The Lusitania?
Pearl Harbor?
Communism and the Domino Theory in Korea and Vietnam?
Committing treason against our King over taxes that come nowhere close to what we feed the bureaucracy today?
Roosevelt's "Big Stick Theory" in the Carribean and Central America?
How about the systemic whiping out of native Americans?
The US wanted the South's goods. Just not us with them. So the US used military force, the only thing they were good for, to just rip them off.

you've got my response in the other thread on the civil war.
Without Slavery there would have been no civil war. period.
tariffs effects goods produced by slaves, no slaves, no cheap goods to ship, Tariffs were a side show.
concerning the other items.
"The Lusitania?
Pearl Harbor?
Communism and the Domino Theory in Korea and Vietnam?"
We're probably in more agreement there. i may even go farther than you concerning the "real" reasons for war.
might be called a conspiracy theorist in fact. even though i 'cut and paste' agreed upon facts
"Committing treason against our King over taxes that come nowhere close to what we feed the bureaucracy today?"
Agreed
"Roosevelt's "Big Stick Theory" in the Carribean and Central America?"
Imperialism in an ugly dress, Yes.
"How about the systemic wiping out of native Americans?"
Raw Imperialism and near genocid.... sorry i mean Manifest Destiny.

You are incorrect. Without slavery, the North would have come up with another excuse. Your reply in another thread doesn't count. All you did was cut and paste propaganda.
The North wanted the South's goods, and control of the Government. Period. Slavery was an excuse, not a reason.
The "real" reasons for the US Civil War were power and money, the same reasons ALL of the US's wars were for. But you go right ahead and pick which TWO wars the US fought that were NOT about power and money. And you can start with the wealthy leitists who committed treason against our King over paying taxes ... you know ... those things we pay more now of by percentage than any colonial paid for tea?

"...would have come up with another.." = speculation. That's not history Gunny.
THE historical, what really happened, reason for the war was slavery.
to the south slaves were power and money Gunny. inseparable.
take our Slavery = war
not other imagined excused.

No, you're right. It's an obvious fact.
Slavery was dead. It couldn't have worked past East Texas. THAT is a fact.
Nobody fought a war over a bunch of slaves. You mean those same slaves Lincoln was willing to let be slaves in the states that existed if they returned to the Union? Or the Irish and blacks that rioted in NY against conscription because they got treated worse than blacks and didn't give a damn about them?
Pick your poison.

Slavery was dead.
It was the source of southern wealth , the southern governors and secession reps all Repeat it again an again. i think they knew better than you Gunny. sorry.
It couldn't have worked past East Texas. THAT is a fact.
the confederate constitution made it clear that they planed to have slavery in EVERY square inch of land the confederacy obtained be it territory or state. Even Sam Huston wrote letters saying that we was in favor of slavery in Texas.
Nobody fought a war over a bunch of slaves.the U.S. did.
You mean those same slaves Lincoln was willing to let be slaves in the states that existed if they returned to the Union? Yep those slaves, but the South didn't believe him.
Like if Obama told you and some others here that he wasn't a muslim. or not a communist, or an american citizen.

Who likes war. You'll alway have some that will fight a draft.
But about 100,000 blacks DID join the Union Army to help free the slaves. And people like Fredrick Douglas recruited for the Union and Harriet Tubman recruited and acted as a SPY for the Union army.
you cherry pick only one side of that issue, look at the bigger picture.
you don't just talk about the anti-war protesters and draft dodgers when you look a Viet-nam war. There were plenty of guys that did go willingly some even volunteered.

Going to play expand-a-post with me now? Good luck with THAT.
The UW fought a war over control of power and money, period. You think they cared about slaves? Like all those benefits they've promised for votes and not delivered? Nobody gave a damn about slaves and that's the cold, hard truth. Slavery was used as an excuse by people who wanted power and control. Freeing slaves was irrelevant. It was a lame-ass, sorry excuse to get a bunch of copperheads fired up. Kind of like CNN does now about guns.
Face it. Your lame ass war was fought to take the wealth from the South when the North couldn't otherwise talk them out of it. That's all it was and all it will ever be. Do what the US says or we'll turn our military loose on you. That's what our motto should be because that's all we've ever done. We are exactly that which we rebelled against in the 1770s. Military tyrants.
And when you get around to addressing any of the points I previously have presented, let me know. It beats the "it was because of slavery", uneducated, loser defense. Might want to think now is a good time to bust out that "A" game. Your "D-" game ain't working for you.

The South fought a war over control of power and money via Slavery, period. You think the north didn't care about slaves? the Republican party was CREATED over the slavery issue. men like John Brown had already KILLED people in Kansas and elsewhere over the slavery issue. The South gave a damn about slaves and that's the cold, hard truth. Slavery was a hot button issue the people who wanted power and control another race were willing to kill for it. Freeing slaves added to the unease and troubles of the South because the slaves heard of it and undermined some of the south war efforts by mass desertions from the plantations when Union troops were near by. Slavery was THE reason the SOUTH bolted and the Screw that turned up the moral heat to get some in the North fired up to fight.
Face it. Your horrific war was fought to keep slavery in the south forever. When the North couldn't otherwise talk them out of it. Lincoln was determined to keep them in the union AND take slavery away to boot. That's all it was and all it will ever be. Let us keep abusing millions of human beings or we'll leave and and we'll turn our military loose on you if you try and stop us.

When you make a point with anything more than general assertions then maybe i can address them with some details until then you get what you get. You're the one that doesn't want to reference anything but your personal opinion. i'm following you lead here gunny.

The South fought a war over self-determination. Anything other than that is bullshit. The North didn't care about slaves. They took a weakness and used it against the people that did.
The North wanted to control the South and any old excuse would do. You just believe in that excuse. If you take your little country and get the Hell out of the rest our worlds' we won't miss you. The fact is y'all are worthless and always have been and the South has kept you afloat.

The South fought a war over self-determination TO OWN SLAVES.
Anything other than that is BS.
The North ..and the south Elected a president from a Party created with an ideal of slowing the advance and eventually ending slavery.
The South bailed with threats of war and attacked Ft Sumpter 1st.
Abraham Lincoln was ready to compromise everything and the the only thing the south wanted COMPLETED cooperation on was SLAVERY. But they didn't believe him. so instead of staying in the union and working out their ONLY grievance ...SLAVERY... they decide to TAKE their slavery and go home get there guns and fight for it.
looks like we've exhausted the loop here gunny i'm out continue if you like..

John Brown was a moron. Guess who whipped his ass at Harpers Ferry in 1859? Robert E. Lee.
I made plenty of points. You ignored them like the Yankee loser you are.
