I'd be amazed if this was also true of anyone's view of the Stars and Stripes, in the US !

Agreed, whole heartedly Abbey. But sadly, and realistically; as you must now know after traveling overseas recently. When WE say "There's no place like home" as Americans; it means more to us than our fellow Americans who have never been anywhere other than here.
In my opinion. More Americans should be forced to travel overseas to Third World nations in order to learn, and understand how valuable our Freedoms, Rights, and Liberties really are..other than living a life where everything is handed to them, without question.

Our veterans, and present members of the military generally know the FULL VALUE of being able to return to AMERICA, which most Americans have little, if any idea how Fortunate they really are, until....they don't have it for long periods of time.

What I have seen of it is a prison that once you enter it doesn't look as though you leave, heck they make the prisoners every time they leave their cell walk bent over, looks like a fun place, but I bet it does make folks think twice before breaking the law.
