Battle of Waterloo. Not the biggest battle of the Napoleonic era but one of the most famous.
He got his ass handed to him in a massive defeat.
Before the battle, Wellington stayed at a Waterloo inn while Napoleon was three miles south. Their men slept out as rain fell throughout the night.
Wellington knew success the next day rested heavily on the arrival of General Blucher and his Prussian reinforcements. They were recuperating in Wavre, 18 miles east of Waterloo. With the Prussians and Allied armies separated, Napoleon was confident he could defeat Wellington and make his way to Brussels.
However , General Blucher and his Prussian reinforcements marched non-stop thru the mud to arrive in time, the rest is history and Europe's Fate had hung in the balance.
Had Napoleon won we'd not likely ever have had WW1 AND WW2.. but we would have had to endure the French and their once great arrogance. -Tyr
