I know this isn't all that old but evertime I think of old movies this one comes to mind, I use to love this movie.


For those that don't know it, it was all about street gangs in NY. They all meet to try and unite and one of them shoots the guy trying to unite them and then frames one of the Warriors, saying he did it, the movie shows them trying to get back home and all the other gangs trying to get revenge on them.

Just to add some trivia ... I lived in Turkey from ages 2-4. I had no idea what TV was. I spent half a day in a motel room in NYC figuring out what stoplights were for when we first cam back to the world. Gunsmoke and the Rifleman and Major Adams were just too cool for me. Wanted Dead or Alive and Rawhide were next.

I never liked Bonanza nor anything comparable in the hokey department. Once Pernell Roberts left, that show was done.

As I was looking at the last page of this thread I thought about this show, The Rat Patrol, loved it, I was a youngin when this was on but I can still remember going to grammar school with a Rat Patrol lunch box. You know he limped because he crashed in his fighter during WWII. Peter Graves was his brother. From about 65 on you never actually saw him mount his horse.

Rev, I wouldn't even include the old THING (or whatever it was called....it came from outer space or something). Anyway, Both I Am Legends were good but I prefer Will Smith's to the old, still prefer the OLD True Grit and then you have those like the OLD and NEW War of the Worlds which were equally as good for different reasons. I like the OLD (initial) planet of the apes but I truly don't think that Russell's THING will ever be beaten. Prometheus sucked and although I vowed to never see one of Cameron's films again......I find myself eager to see if he's gonna try and justify the crap he did with Prometheus. One can only hope that he'll try and get back on track with the first 3 Alien films. I love the general concept that the "CREATORS" or Engineers had something to do with us, ALIENS and Predator and the Christ/Engineer concept is extremely interesting but I truly don't think the guy has 'it' anymore.

I agree, however that the OLD Invasion of the Body Snatchers is MUCH better. King Kong.....love all three versions!!!!

I loved the realism in that movie. The truly bad guy was as real as they come! I've been around some really bad people and his portrayal of that type of crazed killer made sense as they are often that clever, ruthless and irrational.
The ending was killer to me!!!!!

It certainly has.

Yep, started in '67. The last few episodes got a bit weird .. not least because those writing the series found that they couldn't contrive a plotline which saw the Prisoner succeed in escaping by his own efforts. So they came up with two final episodes, where Leo McKern tries a last-ditch attempt to break No 6. Failing, The Village concedes to him. There's some final weirdness in which the Prisoner 'unmasks' Number One, only to discover a crazed version of himself ... maybe to symbolise that we're all our own worst enemies ??

Anyway, some great episodes in between. Another favourite was 'The General', where 'Speedlearn' was a way of imprinting on the human mind anything Society chooses, subliminally (via The Village's TV station ... an American compere introduces the experimental broadcasts). Revealed as a form of mind-slavery ... No 6 defeats 'The General', actually the computer device that does the imprinting ...

"The scenario proposed by After Armageddon reminded viewers that ultimately, the survival of they and their families will depend upon planning ahead for the possibility of disaster - whether disaster comes from pandemic illness, natural or manmade disaster. Viewers were reminded that skills our grandparents knew and practiced - gardening, pickling, canning, herbal remedies, and more - will need to be re-learned in the event of an apocalyptic event.

Evacuation plans in the event of emergency should be made - including a plan of where to go and how to get there. Stockpiling of food and basic supplies should be implemented before a disaster or apocalyptic event occurs (see How to Get Started with Stockpiling, Stockpiling: What to Stockpile,Budget for Stockpiling ). After Armageddon also reminded viewers that in order to prepare for disaster, it will be important to be aware that you will need to defend yourself and understand that survival may require force and violence. When people move into survival mode, they do not as they normally would - civilized and peaceful.

One expert on After Armageddon surmised that foraging after a disaster would become a necessary part of survival. As he stated, foraging is a nice word for looting. This illustrates that disaster changes people and changes their behavior - a common theme in After Armageddon.

Another expert said it best: "We like to think that moral progress has made us nice people. We've heard that our distant ancestors were mean and cruel and ruthless, and we can't imagine that we would be such people - but we're nice mainly because we're rich and comfortable. And when we're no longer rich and comfortable, we won't be as nice."

I liked the ending, where he cuffed the terrorist's hands behind his back, and then jammed a hand grenade into his mouth and took hold of the pin and guided him out of the warehouse into the open arms of the law. The chief lauded his accomplishment of bringing him in alive, and noted that he gets a huge cash bonus for that. He thought back on how this terrorist had killed his girlfriend, disrupted his life. He looked at the terrorist, and said: "Fuck the bonus" and pulled the pin out of the grenade. Everyone ran for cover, and the terrorist had no place to go.
