View Full Version : Nuke deal relies on inspections, but Iran has already been blocking them for years

Has there ever been a "deal" more guaranteed to fail, than this one?
The deal basically removes sanctions from Iran. Which were the only things that even brought Iran to the negotiating table in the first place. And as an extra bennie, it lets them enrich all the uranium they want, later on. (WTF???)
And it says that, if we find they are violating their promises to limit enrichment right now, we will put the sanctions back on.
But how do we find that? With inspections, of course.
And Iran already has a long record of blocking inspections, ignoring requests for information, and generally telling the world they'll do whatever they damned well please regardless of treaties, agreements, or laws.
They are basically a 13th-century version of the Democrat Party.
How can we possibly make an "agreement" with people who have violated that same agreement endlessly in the past?
Can "adults" possibly be that naïve and self-deluded? All for the sake of crafting an "achievement" they can later point to as part of their "legacy"... even as it falls apart faster than a sand castle at high tide? A tide that comes again and again, every time, as reliably as clockwork?

Good points are being made here.
I suggest another way that this could all go badly, however. Iran already has a history of trying to hide its full nuclear potentialities .. a few years ago, a secret facility, close to being operational, was discovered by Western intelligence sources. Now ... what if Iran decides to allow inspectors to verify so-called 'cooperation' involving those facilities and capabilities we KNOW about - but keep secret others that we DON'T know about ?
Iran's duplicity in the past is a known fact. Why on earth should we all, now, be inclined to place the smallest trust in Iran today ??
I fully believe that Iran has a holocaustal ambition where Israel is concerned, and absolutely nothing will persuade them to give it up.
Another point has apparently emerged, at least according to a BBC report I watched today. The Iranian President apparently believes that sanctions will be lifted immediately. However, this appears not to be true.

Under the agreement, Iran will cut by more than two-thirds to 5,060 the number of centrifuges it currently operates to enrich uranium. The Fordo underground nuclear facility will remain open for research but will not be used for enrichment.
Iran will also cut its stockpile of low-enriched uranium from around 10 tonnes to 300kg for 15 years, and the design of the heavy-water reactor under construction at Arak will be modified so it produces no weapons-grade plutonium.
In return, UN sanctions and separate measures imposed unilaterally by the US and EU will be gradually suspended as the global nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), confirms Iranian compliance.
What if Iran is already seeking to renege on the deal, insisting that sanctions go without delay, irrespective of proof of compliance ?

A little reminder of the 2009 farce - THEN, we all knew that Iran couldn't be trusted. Suddenly, however - and this BEFORE the full process of inspections is underway !! - confidence in them is so much stronger.

President Obama, backed by British and French leaders, demanded Friday that Iran open for inspection a previously secret uranium enrichment plant, warning Tehran that it would be "held accountable" if it continued to flout the rules of international conduct.
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, speaking at a news conference in New York, said the facility would not be operational for 18 months and that his country had not violated any requirements under the International Atomic Energy Agency.
In a dramatic joint statement, Obama — flanked by British Prime Minister Gordon Brown and French President Nicolas Sarkozy — said the existence of the site "deepens a growing concern" that Iran has failed to live up to its international obligations to fully disclose its nuclear ambitions. Obama said Iran "is breaking rules that all nations must follow, endangering the world non-nuclear proliferation regime ... and the security of the world."
"The Iranian government must now demonstrate through deeds its peaceful intentions or be held accountable to international standards and international law," Obama said.
What we have here is a very disturbing political accommodation. No basis for increased trust in Iran actually exists at all. But it's been conveniently decided, on a purely ad-hoc whim, to start doing so.
JUST HOW HEAVY A PRICE WILL ISRAEL HAVE TO PAY IN THE END ??
