Tacoma police officer bites off attacker's fingerBy The Associated Press
TACOMA — A Tacoma police officer bit off the finger of a woman he thought was part of a group of people attacking him during the weekend.
That's according to an affidavit of probable cause filed in Pierce County Superior Court.
Officer Darren Kelly resorted to the desperate measure after being jumped while trying to make an arrest on Saturday at about 6:15 a.m.
Investigators say three, and possibly four, people punched, stomped and kicked the 40-year-old Kelly and tried to get his gun while he was investigating a complaint that someone was spraying graffiti in the area.
Prosecutors have charged two of the people allegedly involved in the attack, including the woman.
Kimberly T. Leutele, 21, was charged with first-degree assault, felony harassment and third-degree assault. Her boyfriend, 19-year-old Allen Jung, was charged with first-degree assault and felony harassment.
